Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a Nursing Technician to assist patients with activities of daily living and provide basic nursing care on a non-acute inpatient unit. Under RN supervision, you will help plan, organize, implement and evaluate nursing unit activities while maintaining a safe, clean environment.

Minimum qualifications include a High School Diploma/GED or CNA certification; Nursing Assistant certification and MOAB or BLS/First Aid preferred.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED; or CNA certification; or equivalent related work experience.
  • Nursing Assistant Certification preferred; LTAC or med/surg experience or nursing rotation preferred.
  • MOAB training preferred; BLS-AHA and First Aid preferred or within 30 days.
  • Excellent organizational skills; ability to work cooperatively with others; familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Population-specific care competencies and med/surg nursing floor environment familiarity.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with activities of daily living and provide basic nursing care for non-acutely ill patients.
  • Support planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating activities in the nursing unit.
  • Observe and follow nursing care plans and departmental policies; maintain safe and clean environment.
  • Record and communicate effectively with RN and health care team; assist with computer tasks as needed.
  • Assist with patient population needs across adolescent to geriatric groups; physical support and safety.

The nursing technician assists patients with activities of daily living, provides basic nursing care to non-acutely ill patients and assists in the maintenance of a safe and clean environment. The nursing technician functions under the direction and supervision of the RN. Under the supervision of the Clinical Director/Nurse Manager or delegate, the nursing technician assists in planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating the activities occurring in the nursing Unit. This position deals with a patient population ranging in age from adolescence to geriatrics with surgical/medical clinical focus.

Job Description:Essential Responsibilities: Consistently demonstrates a familiarity with the duties required of a nursing technician and performs all duties accurately in accordance with departmental policies and procedures; readily observes or assists others to obtain further knowledgeConsistently demonstrates competence in performing care, treatment and procedures as outlined in the Nursing technicians Clinical Skills List.Always follows the Nursing Care Plan; observes established policies and procedures for proper patient treatment and care

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: High School Diploma/GED; or C.N.A. certification; or equivalent related work experience required

Nursing Assistant Certification, prior LTAC or med/surg experience, or nursing clinical rotation, preferred

MOAB training preferred

BLS-AHA certification and First Aid training preferred, or obtained within 30 days of hire

Excellent organizational skills

Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others

Experience with the use of computers preferred or familiarization with keyboard and typing skills preferred

Familiarization with medical terminology

POPULATION SPECIFIC CARE COMPETENCIES: Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the population of patients regularly served; seeks assistance from resources if other population groups need care.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT: In-patient nursing floor setting

PHYSICAL EFFORT REQUIRED; Physical ability to meet the core job responsibilities in accordance with med/surg nursing floor demands for patient populations regularly served. Must be able to reposition patients and transfer patients weighing up to 300 pounds (with assistance). Staff under age 18 are restricted from doing mechanical lifts.

SAFETY: Completes Hospital and Departmental orientation; then annually completes Employee Comprehensive Education, Sexual Harassment, Compliance, and other required trainings and competencies as assigned from time-to-time, and within established timelines for completion. Wears appropriate no skid shoes.

  • Written Communications: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English with internal and external customers.
  • Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and converse in English to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
  • Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate basic knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to use them in routine situations. Specialized knowledge not required.
  • Teamwork: Ability to interact respectfully with other employees, professional staff and/or external contacts to offer ideas, identify issues, obtain information or deliver services.
  • Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

Age based Competencies: Employees in this job must be competent to provide patient care to the following age groups: Neonatal: Birth to 6 months, Youth: 6 months to 16 years, Young adult: 16-30 years, Middle Age: 30 - 60 years, Elderly: 60 - .

Physical Nature of the Job: Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and or up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Job is physical in nature and employee needs to stand and/or move around through the majority of their shift.

Pay Range: $19.50 - $26.24

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
