Job summary

UChicago Medicine in Hyde Park seeks a Nursing Support Assistant (CNA) to assist the nursing team in delivering patient care. Under RN supervision, you will perform basic care tasks, observe patients, and help with daily activities to ensure safe, high-quality care.

You will join the 10E Oncology/SCT unit, working days in a 0.1 FTE registry, with duties ranging from vital signs to transfers and documentation. CPR/BLS certification and Illinois CNA registry eligibility are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be listed on the IDPH Health Care Worker Registry (HCWR) as an Illinois CNA OR a nursing student who has passed the written competency exam and listed on the HCWR.
• CPR/BLS Certification.
• Ability to read and write, perform simple mathematical calculations, follow oral and written instructions, perform variety of tasks without direct supervision and perform duties requiring continuous physical effort.
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and/or in written form.
• Ability to work in partnership with management and staff.
• Occasional lifting may be heavy and awkward, over 50 lbs.
• Moderate to extreme physical effort such as walking, standing, performing CPR, and lifting materials/equipment/patients may be required.
• Vision, hearing, and sense of touch must be adequate to perform tasks such as reading small print and clear communication.
• Frequent periods of concentrated attention for interpreting inputs.

Responsibilities

• Provides basic patient care activities including vital signs, enemas and basic tests such as glucoscan, hemacult and multistix.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living using proper aseptic, isolation, and infection control techniques.
• Assists patients with personal hygiene, ambulation and nourishment/fluids.
• Completes procedures such as collecting patient specimens and weighing patients.
• Assists with discharge and transfer preparation of patients.
• Maintains the patient environment: makes beds, tidies rooms, prepares rooms for admission/transfer.
• Assists with maintenance of supplies/equipment and environment.
• Communicates and documents activities onto logs.
• Initiates CPR and calls a Dr. Cart.
• Performs receptionist duties for assigned area.

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity.
