Job description

Job Summary

Responsibilities and authority for nursing management, supervision of nursing personnel, adjustment of daily staffing assignments and patient care in the clinical areas during their shift. The supervisor acts on behalf of hospital administration when necessary and communicates and collaborates with appropriate others to assure patient care and personnel management functions.

Essential Functions
  • Consistently uses an outward mindset and puts forth exemplary effort in accomplishing his/her goals and objectives in a manner that helps others to achieve their goals and objectives.
  • Manages and coordinates the nursing functions of all assigned clinical areas in the absence of the clinical nurse manager.
  • Participates in the administration of the annual FTE budget.
  • Participates in the development of policies and procedures that apply to the Nursing Department.
  • Implements established goals of the Nursing Department
  • Utilizes established guidelines in clinical areas relating to staffing, patient care and decision-making.
  • Supervises all nursing activities related to patient care and maintains standards for accurate reporting and recording of patient symptoms, reactions and progress.
  • Organizes and evaluates delivery of patient care and ensures continuity of care based on knowledge of clinical nursing needs of patients through implementation of nursing process to ensure compliance with established standards.
  • Communicates with family and health professionals regarding care to patients.
Minimum Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; Current license in the State of Michigan as a Registered Nurse; three years’ clinical experience; (BLS from American Red Cross or American Heart Association), ACLS, and PACS certifications within one year of hire. TNCC certification within two years of hire.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Bachelor’s degree or specialty certification in nursing preferred. Monitoring interpretation skills. Demonstrate leadership abilities, able to work under stressful situations and possess clear oral and written communication skills.

Working Conditions

Work in an unpredictable environment encountering stressful situations and exposure to body fluids and infectious diseases. May experience traumatic situations including deceased patients.

Physical Requirements

Constantly see/visual acuity, talk/hear. Frequently stand, walk, reach, push/pull, handle/grasp/feel, bend/twist, stoop/kneel/crouch. Occasionally lift/carry 1 to 50+ lbs.
