About the Position

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the student assists in providing goal-directed, individualized patient care, utilizing the nursing process and care plan, to an assigned group of patients. The student performs all or part of the following duties under supervision.

Scope of Responsibilities

• Provide patient care consistent with the medical plan of care under RN supervision.
• Perform physical assessments.
• Demonstrate professional behavior in interactions with patients, families, and healthcare team.
• Maintain composure in stressful situations.
• Report on each patient at start/end of clinical experiences.
• Prepare patients for transport, testing, or discharge.
• Administer medications under RN supervision.
• Document in medical records.
• Provide basic patient care and education.
• Participate in discharge planning.
• Use therapeutic communication techniques.
• Coordinate with providers regarding patient conditions.
• Provide age-appropriate care based on growth and development principles.
• Adhere to confidentiality policies and code of conduct.

Physical and Sensory Requirements
