Job description

Position Accountable To: Nursing Program Director

GENERAL SUMMARY

Faculty teach an average of 24 hours of load per academic year. Academic load can be made up of face‑to‑face courses, online courses, hybrid courses, and/or clinical/lab/simulation experiences. Teaching assignments will be made in collaboration with the Nursing Program Director and the Dean of the School of Health Professions.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plan and deliver learning experiences for nursing students to make maximum use of class/lab/clinical time.
  • Teach assigned nursing education load.
  • Evaluate student performance. Discuss evaluations with students and return evaluations to the student file. (Evaluation of student performance includes evaluation of papers, projects, and journals, and returning these to students in timely fashion.)
  • Attend meetings and participate in committees as assigned.
  • Participate in the design and development of new health professions programs and in the revision of current health professions programs based on assessment data.
  • Comply with the Missouri State Board of Nursing Minimum Standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
For Undergraduate Pre‑licensure Programs
  • MSN preferred.
  • Teaching experience preferred.
  • RN, MSN‑in‑Process within one year of graduation mandatory.
  • Current, unencumbered, Missouri nursing license.
  • Approval by the Missouri State Board of Nursing as a faculty member.
For Graduate Programs
  • MSN and PhD, EdD, or DNP required.
  • Teaching experience preferred.Current, unencumbered nursing license in the state where the faculty resides.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
For face‑to‑face courses
  • Frequently stand for at least one hour consecutively.
  • Operate classroom audio‑visual equipment.
  • Speak loudly and clearly enough to be understood by students.
For online courses
  • Sit for extended periods of time.
COMMUNICATION
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • The Faculty Member must be able to utilize effective communication with peers, students, clients and their families, and other healthcare providers.
  • Ability to read at a competency level that allows one to safely carry out the essential functions of an assignment (examples: handwritten documentation, printed policy and procedure manuals, clinical guidelines and instructions, course syllabi).
  • Ability to effectively interpret and process information.
  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) with students, peers, clients/families, healthcare professionals, and others within the community.
  • Ability to access information and to communicate and document effectively via computer.
  • Ability to recognize, interpret, and respond to nonverbal behavior of self and others.
BEHAVIOR

The faculty member must be capable of exercising good judgment, developing empathetic and therapeutic relationships with students, clients and others, and tolerating close and direct physical contact with a diverse population. They will include people of all ages, races, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds, as well as individuals with weight disorders, physical disfigurement, and medical and mental health problems.
