Job summary

AdventHealth in Orlando, FL seeks a Nurse Professional Development (NPD) Practitioner to advance clinical learning and evidence-based practice on a Cardiac PCU team. You will support nursing research, facilitate education, and partner with staff to implement improvements.

Requirements include a Bachelor of Nursing, RN license, BLS/ACLS, and 2+ years of hospital nursing experience; Master’s degree and ANCC-NPD are preferred. Competitive benefits and a strong leadership team are offered.

Unit Highlights:


  • The Cardiac PCU is a fast paced 40-bed ICU step down unit which cares for a diverse, and acutely ill patient population. We specialize in the treatment of patients requiring advanced heart failure therapies such as Ventricular Assist Devices (LVADs), artificial hearts and heart transplantation. We also care for patients who have undergone coronary artery bypass, valve repairs, heart catheterizations, pacemaker implantation, and AICD implantation.


  • Patient care model: Registered Nurses & Patient Care Technicians/Nurse Technicians. Ratios: 4-5 patients per 1 RN based on acuity & 10-13 patients per 1 PCT/NT based on acuity


  • Our leadership team is highly engaged and works closely with the frontline staff. We encourage great relationships with our physician team and other ancillary departments. Our Cardiac PCU is fortunate to have a specialized group of physicians and mid-level providers that have close working relationships with the nursing and leadership team.



Primary Job Responsibilities:


  • Serves as a resource for clinical inquiry process, including identification of potential projects, and/or subject matter expertise.


  • Demonstrates a “spirit of inquiry” to support professional curiosity including research, evidence-based practice, and quality improvement initiatives using the organization’s preferred structure, i.e. PDSA (plan, do, study, act).


  • Works with others to identify problems and solutions and collaboratively create and assists in the implementation of the changes planned.


  • Creates a supportive environment for nursing research, scientific inquiry, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice.


  • Disseminates evidence-based practice findings through educational programs, courses, and other activities. Other duties as assigned.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Working knowledge of word processing, data management, email, and presentation applications.[Required]


  • Effective professional communicator with strong interpersonal skills.[Required]


  • Knowledge of the American Nurses Association (ANA)/Association of Nursing Professional Development (ANPD) scope and standards for Nursing Professional Development[Required]


  • Self-directed, creative, and demonstrates initiative to fulfill the seven roles of the NPD practitioner: learning facilitator, change agent, mentor, leader, champion for inquiry, advocate for the NPD specialty and partner for practice transitions.[Preferred]


  • Knowledge of applicable regulatory standards (e.g., CMS, OSHA) for professional specialty served.[Preferred]



Education:


  • Bachelor's of Nursing [Required]


  • Master's [Preferred]



Work Experience:


  • 2+ years of nursing experience in a hospital setting [Required]


  • Experience as preceptor [Preferred]


  • Previous teaching experience in formal/informal settings [Preferred]


  • 1+ years of experience as an NPD Practitioner [Preferred]


  • Recent ED experience [Preferred]



Licenses and Certifications:


  • Registered Nurse (RN) [Required]


  • Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) [Required]


  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) [Required]


  • ANCC - Nursing Professional Development Certification (ANCC-NPD) [Preferred]


  • Acute/Critical Care Nursing - Adult (CCRN)[Preferred]

Pay Range:

$71,385.60 - $132,787.20
