Harris Health System, Inc. seeks a Nursing Operations Specialist (NOS) to support nursing operations under the Chief Nursing Officer. You will integrate system-wide initiatives, develop training materials, and collaborate across Nursing to standardize care and practices.

You will mentor staff, uphold professional nursing standards, and engage in nursing organizations and research activities to advance quality care within Harris County’s safety-net system.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Nursing or higher required or preferred.
  • Texas RN license required to practice.
  • Nurse executive certification (NEA/ANM) or equivalent preferred.
  • Basic Life Support from AHA/Red Cross required or to be obtained within two years.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily support for nursing operations and integration of system-wide initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Nursing departments to create training materials, policies, and procedures.
  • Identify gaps in Nursing performance to standardize best practices across Harris Health Nursing Services.

Job Summary

The Nursing Operations Specialist (NOS) reports to the Chief Nursing Officer and provides daily support for nursing operations to include integration of system-wide initiatives, research and development, collaboration with multiple Nursing departments for the creation and delivery of content for training materials, policies and procedures, etc., and identification of gaps in Nursing performance to ensure the standardization and best practices for Harris Health Nursing Services.

The NOS is responsible for creating and maintaining an environment that cultivates exemplary patient care. As a member of the nursing leadership team, the NOS establishes a setting that supports professional nursing practice and empowers nurses to provide safe, effective, compassionate, and efficient nursing care in collaboration with all health care disciplines. The NOS ensures compliance with standards established by professional nursing organizations, national, state, and local regulatory agencies; and institutional policies and procedures. The NOS is accountable for nursing practice that upholds high standards of integrity and ethical behavior. The NOS mentors others, role models professionalism, and participation in activities such as nursing organizations, nursing research, the community.

Minimum Qualifications:

Degree:

  • a) Master's Degree: Holds at least one (1) of the following in Nursing: Bachelors, Masters, or Doctoral degree (Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN) Preferred)

Licensure/Certification:

  • a) Registered Nurse: Licensed to practice as RN in the state of Texas
  • b) Nurse Executive Board Certified (Or) Crtfd Nrs Admin, Adv (08-NEA) (Or) Certfd Nurse Mngr & Leader (Or) Certifd in Exe Nrsng Practice To be completed within two (2) years, if not held at the time of appointment
  • c) Clinical Specialty: Relevant clinical specialty certification (Preferred)
  • d) Basic Life Support: From an American Heart Association or Red Cross approved program

Work Experience:

  • a) Five (5) Years Work Experience: Five (5) years of RN experience with at least three (3) years of work experience in related clinical area of practice
  • b) Two (2) years of project/program, management experience with increasingly complex projects in a nursing department required.
  • c) Information Technology or Nursing Informatics preferred

Management Experience:

  • a) Two (2) Years Work Experience: Related management/leadership experience
Communication Skills:
  • a) Above Average Verbal (Heavy Public Contact)
  • b) Exceptional Verbal (e.g., Public Speaking)
  • c) Writing/Correspondence:
    1. Must have excellent oral and written skills.
    2. Must have good organizational skills and be able to demonstrate both analytical and statistical skills.
    3. Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of internal and external personnel.
    4. Must have excellent presentation skills, and personal computer skills in MS Word, Power Point, Access and Excel software.
    5. Must have strong EMR documentation skills.
    6. Must have strong database management skills.
    7. Must demonstrate ability to mine, analyze, collate
      and trend data.
    8. Must be able to prepare project schedules, budgets and reports.
