Job Summary

The Valley Foundation School of Nursing is a department within the College of Health and Human Sciences. The School offers Baccalaureate, Master's, and Doctor of Nursing Practice nursing education programs. These programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing. The School also operates the Wound and Ostomy, Foot and Nail program and several Nurse Managed Centers in the community. It emphasizes the use of clinical simulation and seeks to strengthen connections to the surrounding San Jose and Silicon Valley communities, furthering a social justice mission of access, equity, opportunity, and success.

Brief Description of Duties

The part‑time lecturer position, approved by the CA Board of Registered Nursing and the University, involves teaching undergraduate (BSN, RN‑BSN) or graduate (MS and/or DNP) courses. Responsibilities include classroom, online, and clinical teaching, commitment to evidence‑based practice, maintaining clinical expertise, advising students, and effective collaboration within the School of Nursing.

Other Duties

• Demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a student population of great diversity—including age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation—through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.
• Organize all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
• Ensure all classes meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester or term, in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes (i.e., asynchronous, synchronous, bichronous, in‑person, or hybrid).

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree in nursing (Baccalaureate degree may be accepted with five years of clinical experience) which includes coursework in nursing and nursing education.
• A minimum of 5 years recent clinical experience providing direct patient care.
• Possession of, or eligibility for, RN licensure in California.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work well in teams.
• Knowledge of the subject matter of the discipline to which the individual is assigned.
• Ability to teach and evaluate adult learners.
• Demonstrated sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross‑cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.
  • Lecturer A (LA): Master's in Nursing in progress; or BS in Nursing plus at least 5 years professional experience.
  • Lecturer B (LB): Master's in Nursing and 5 years of professional work experience.
  • Lecturer C (LC): Doctorate; or Master's degree in Nursing with extensive clinical and academic experience.
  • Lecturer D (LD): a Doctorate degree (health‑related).

Preferred Qualifications

• 1 year of teaching experience in a registered nurse education program, clinical instruction, precepting nursing students, or precepting new hires.

Compensation

Compensation rates are based on qualifications and experience. Monthly salary ranges: L‑A: $5,507–$5,959. L‑B: $6,221–$7,481. L‑C: $6,825–$9,431. L‑D: $8,593–$10,347. Part‑time rates are prorated.
