Core Nursing Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, teach, and evaluate the philosophy and objectives of the nursing education program.
- Design, implement, teach, evaluate, and revise the curriculum.
- Document actions taken in faculty and committee meetings using a systematic plan of evaluation for total program review.
- Lead simulation learning experiences in the Nursing Lab.
Didactic Responsibilities
- Teach and evaluate students in the classroom; deliver at least 36 credits annually.
- Design an effective learning environment addressing contemporary nursing issues.
- Support students’ academic progression and socialization into the nursing role.
- Utilize a variety of assessment tools to evaluate student learning.
- Participate in the systematic plan for curriculum design, program evaluation, and revision.
- Serve as a mentor to faculty, adjuncts, and students.
- Engage in continuous in‑service and professional development opportunities annually.
- Advise an assigned group of core nursing students, contacting advisees at least once per semester via in‑person, phone, and electronic communication.
- Develop student success plans and remediate at‑risk students.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Oversee instruction and grading of clinical adjuncts.
- Facilitate students’ application of theory to clinical practice.
- Attend hospital-based orientations.
- Demonstrate and maintain knowledge of program outcomes and course objectives.
- Communicate effectively with clinical agency representatives, staff, faculty, and students.
- Identify and communicate problem areas or clinical concerns to Course Lead Faculty, recommending changes as appropriate.
- Maintain weekly or as‑needed communication with Course Lead Faculty regarding student progress, successes, needs, and clinical issues.
- Grade clinical papers and provide timely, clear feedback.
- Maintain records of student performance, including success plans, disciplinary plans, and clinical evaluations.
- Complete clinical site evaluations.
- Adhere to and enforce the policies of Arizona College of Nursing and assigned clinical facilities.
Additional Responsibilities for Teaching Didactic/Clinical Classes
- Plan, teach, and evaluate classroom, clinical, skills labs, and other learning experiences with team members.
- Connect students to college resources for their success.
- Consistently demonstrate and coach students on soft skills such as leadership, ethics, communication, critical thinking, teamwork, collaboration, responsibility, and dependability.
- Maintain a campus presence and contribute positively to campus culture.
- Provide input in developing, evaluating, and revising program policies through governance structures.
- Participate in faculty meetings, in‑service offerings, and other nursing events.
- Protect student privacy by completing required FERPA training and upholding FERPA guidelines.
- Complete all other duties as assigned.
Faculty Competency Requirements
- Faculty must provide evidence of education and experience necessary to teach a given course and develop and evaluate admission, progression, retention, and graduation policies within the governing institution.
- Graduate degree required; if not in nursing, must hold a bachelor’s in nursing and a graduate degree in a related discipline from an accredited program.
- Minimum of three (3) years of professional registered nurse experience providing direct patient care; prior teaching experience in a registered nursing program is preferred.
- Current, unencumbered state professional registered nurse license or relevant compact license.
- Preferred: Certified Nurse Educator certification and national specialty certification.
- Maintain professional competence through nursing practice, continuing education, conferences, workshops, seminars, research projects, and professional writing.
- Subject to state BON/BRN/HEB regulation(s) where the campus/student is located.
