Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Health System, Lutheran Hospital, is seeking a Nursing Department Assistant for night shift to provide for patients' daily living activities and assist with direct patient care under RN supervision.

You'll transport patients, maintain a safe, clean environment, document care, and participate in routine tasks like EKGs and vitals as required. A High School Diploma or GED is required; STNA and BLS are preferred/required within probation.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Requires basic math skills and ability to read and write.
  • STNA certification preferred; BLS certification within new hire period is required.
  • Previous nursing assistant experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with wide variety of patient care tasks and collaborates with members of health care team to promote the delivery of patient care.
  • Organizes patient care assignments to ensure timely delivery and completion of care on assigned patients.
  • Seeks assistance as necessary for difficult assignments or problem solving.
  • Documents the care provided in patient record.
  • Labels specimens properly.
  • Asks patient about pain and reports to the RN/LPN as needed.
  • Utilizes pain scale.
  • Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of unit including patient/unit equipment.
  • Keeps patient areas neat and uncluttered and prepares rooms for patient admissions.
  • Cleans and maintains patient/unit equipment (i.e. over-bed tables, bed pans, bedside commodes).
  • Reports any problems (i.e. equipment, supplies and maintenance problems) immediately to the RN.
  • Makes hourly patient rounds to ensure safety measures are in place.
  • Ensures that all bed alarms are activated during hourly rounds.
  • Follows standard precautions using PPE.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

Provides for patients’ daily living activities; maintains safe and clean environment, maintains supplies, maintains equipment function. Transports patients and completes errands. With direction from RN assists in direct patient care tasks (i.e. performs EKGs, blood glucose monitoring, specimen collection, dressing changes, colostomy care and documentation of vital signs).

  • Makes hourly patient rounds (based on patient condition) to assure that safety measures are in place (i.e. side rails up as needed; beds in low, locked position; phone and call lights are within the patients’ reach; and restraints are applied appropriately.
  • Ensures that all bed alarms are activated during hourly rounds. Utilizes personal protective equipment and universal comfort to assist the patient toward independent living.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Requires basic math skills and ability to read and write.

Certifications:

  • State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) certification preferred.
  • Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross required within new hire period.

Complexity of Work:

  • Demonstrates empathy and interacts with patients, visitors, and all personnel in a courteous, helpful manner; able to resolve conflict in a constructive manner; able to maintain confidentiality regarding patients, families and co-workers; demonstrates respect for individual cultural and social differences.
  • Requires ability to work with minimal supervision.

Work Experience:

  • Previous nursing assistant experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires frequent standing, walking, kneeling, reaching, squatting, bending/stooping and lifting patients.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
  • Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
