Job summary

Stars Behavioral Health Group is hiring a Nursing Coordinator in Torrance, CA. The role supports the Director of Nursing, supervising nursing staff, coordinating medications, and ensuring adherence to physician orders within a 24/7 adolescent residential setting.

The position emphasizes collaboration with physicians, social workers, and records staff to ensure safe, approved care plans and family consent processes, with ongoing education and schedule management.

Qualifications

• Active, valid California LVN or LPT license.
• 1 year experience with severely emotionally disturbed children or 40 hours regulatory on-the-job training.
• Preferred: 1 year medication administration experience; QA or supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care, treatments, medications and diet per attending physician orders.
• Coordinate admissions, discharges, transfers, and transportation for medical appointments.
• Develop and maintain accurate nursing care plans and documentation in the medical record system.
• Collaborate with physicians, social workers, and medical records for informed consent and coordination of care.
• Provide medication education and health practice information to clients; ensure safety and psychosocial needs are met.

What you bring to SBHG (Qualifications):

• Active, valid California LVN (Licensed Vocational Nurse), or LPT (Licensed Psychiatric Technician) license.
• Graduation from an accredited school of Licensed Vocational Nursing or Licensed Psychiatric Technology, preferred

Experience & Training:

• Clinical Experience: One (1) year experience working with severely emotionally disturbed (SED) children OR a 40 hours of regulatory on-the-job training.
• Preferred Experience: One (1) year of medication administration experience, an associate's degree, Quality Assurance (QA) experience, and/or prior supervisory experience.

Core Skills & Knowledge:

• Knowledge of medication administration, especially psychotropic meds and medical treatment.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) to effectively interact with seriously emotionally disturbed adolescents, physicians, staff and the public.

How you will make a difference (job overview):

The Nursing Coordinator position provides support for Director of Nursing. Also provides monitoring, education, and direction to the nursing staff as directed by the DON. The Nurse Coordinator helps ensure that each PHF and CTF client receives the nursing care, treatment, medications and diet, which have been ordered by the attending physician, ensuring the overall quality of licensed nursing care for Star View. Work with physicians, social workers, and medical records to secure informed consent for medication from parents, courts, conservators, etc. Nursing coordinator's duties will also include providing coverage in the milieu as needed. Provide medication education and information on health practices to clients. Helps to ensure safety and meet the physical and psychosocial needs of clients. Coordinate the development and maintenance of an accurate work schedule for CTF and PHF nursing staff including a current "on call" list. Participate in ProAct assignments and activities. Consult with Director of Training in planning and conducting the orientation program and continuing education for nursing personnel. Provides other nursing duties including first Aid and medical intervention within scope of licensure as necessary for each individual client. Ensure accurate, complete, and appropriate nursing care plans and other nursing documentation are generated and maintained in a timely manner in the medical record system. Coordinate admissions, discharges, transfers, and arrange transportation for medical and other appointments. • Population Served: A comprehensive mental health in patient residential facility for adolescents; Statewide service for up to 60 adolescents (ages 12–17) experiencing severe mental health challenges.
• Facility & Setting: 24/7 locked, highly secure inpatient residential campus operating with the highest standards of dignity and care since 1988.
• Programs: Psychiatric Health Facility (PHF), Community Treatment Facility (CTF), and an on-site Non-Public High School (SBHS).
• Clinical Services: Multidisciplinary mental health services, Therapeutic Behavioral Services (TBS), and Intensive Day Treatment Program.
