Job summary

Job description

BASIC JOB FUNCTIONS:To provide care for residents according to Nursing Standards of Care as taught in educational program for C.N.A., and according to facility procedures and task lists. Provides care utilizing safe techniques and specialized equipment designed to protect the resident and staff at all times. Provides care and services in accordance with Resident Rights and in accordance with Title 22 and OBRA regulation.REPORTING: The Certified Nursing Assistant reports to the Charge Nurse on duty and the Director of Staff Development.JOB DUTIES:1. Reports to assigned station and/or charge nurse at the beginning of each scheduled work day. Accepts assignments for the day without discussion unless there is an unusual circumstance that must be addressed. Advises the charge nurse & relief CNA before leaving assigned area of duty for breaks/lunch or prior to end of shift for any reason.2. Performs all functions within the C.N.A. Scope of Practice. Requests assistance for any assignments /procedures that are unfamiliar, including colostomy care, catheter care & etc.3. Performs resident cares in an efficient and effective manner, utilizing safe techniques and being always mindful of Resident’s Rights and facility’s philosophy and mission.4. Complies with all rules and regulations and policies and procedures of the facility, as well as regulatory requirements of the state and federal government as they relate to skilled nursing facilities.5. Reports any change in resident condition to the charge nurse in a complete and timely manner. Documentation and reporting must be completed according to instruction and facility protocol.6. Demonstrates the ability to be a “team player” with staff from all facility departments. Assists other C.N.A.’s with transferring resident’s, responds to all call lights and covers the assignment of coworkers during meal and break times.7. Displays a pleasant, interested and positive approach to residents and other staff. Demonstrates ability to be an effective listener and is courteous at all times.8. Takes responsibility to get continuing education hours required to maintain C.N.A. certification as per state requirements. The facility will provide opportunity for hours of education and will maintain proper records for your use at time of recertification.9. Reports for work as scheduled. For illness or emergency, you must call the staffing phone at least 2 hours prior to shift or providing as much prior notice as possible.10. At end of shift must stay on the clock until your relief comes and you must give report by going into each resident’s rooms, make sure they’re clean & dry, trash bins emptied, preventative devices in place, bed low if fall risk, catheter bags emptied and I&O’s given to charge nurse.11. Reports to charge nurse any resident who lacks proper identification.12. Reports to maintenance any safety issue such as malfunctioning call light, burned out bulbs, etc.13. Complies with facility dress code for nursing service.14. Attends mandatory meetings.15. Maintains current CPR status and provides updated copies to the facility.16. Takes direction from the RNA staff related to the walk to dine program.17. Introduces self by name upon approaching a resident or entering their room. Knocks on doors and requests entry to a resident’s room. Explains procedures to resident before beginning and re-explains during procedure as needed.18. Other daily duties including but not limited to:a. Monitoring vital signs including Temperature, Pulse, Respirations, Blood Pressure and Painb. Passing ice and water each shiftc. Assist with ADL’s as needed but at the same time encouraging resident to highest level of independenced. Complete charting of ADL’s on Electronic charting : POCe. Assisting residents with consumption of meals and fluids as needed—encouraging fluids and offering fluids frequentlyf. Knowing your resident’s particular needs such as fluid restrictions, dietary restrictions, plan for therapy or any other resident specific information. C.N.A.’s are encouraged to obtain information from resident’s POC Kardex and be familiar with the resident’s Plan of Care.19. Any other duties as assigned by the Director of Staff Development, Charge Nurse RN Supervisor, DON and Administrator.REQUIREMENTS:Certified by the State of California as a Certified Nursing Assistant and maintains current certification while employed as a C.N.A. at the facility.Demonstrates the ability to follow oral and written instructions and to write information in English.Must be able to perform any physical requirement of the position which includes lifting dead weight or unassisted weight of 40 pounds.Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English.Has the desire to care for people, especially the elderly and/or chronically ill.
