Job description

Answer’s telephone and Patient Call System. Serves as a receptionist by greeting and directing visitors.

Provides patient care activities to assist nursing personnel in the care of patients.

Works closely with peers, nursing staff, supervisors, physicians, and other healthcare team members.

Essential Functions:
  • Maintains confidentiality of all hospital matters.
  • Completes all required Competencies.
  • Supports staffing/scheduling needs of the department.
  • Works weekends and holidays as scheduled.
  • Performs Unit Secretarial tasks including greeting physicians, staff, visitors and others; answers telephone which includes transferring calls; makes up charts on admission and tears them down upon discharge; answers call light system and channels requests appropriately; orders supplies; assures availability of all information sheets for each shift.
  • Establishes good rapport and working relationships to foster interdepartmental communication necessary for the delivery of patient care.
  • Restocks nurse server drawers, gloves, PPE boxes, and changes sharp container always maintaining a well‑stocked area.
  • Delivers lab specimens from Med/Surg in a timely manner.
  • Utilizes computer documentation to access pertinent patient information and for internal e‑mail applications.
  • Demonstrates self‑directed and self‑motivated initiative.
  • Adheres to Standard Precautions, Exposure Control Plan, Hospital Safety, and Infection Control Policies.
  • Supports the mission, vision, standards, and values of the Medical/Surgical Unit.
  • Demonstrates ability to appropriately communicate.
  • Administers patient care duties under the direction of the Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • Makes rounds willingly and responds to patient call lights promptly.
  • Actively participates in direct delivery of safe patient care and maintains a safe comfortable environment for patients.
  • Completes shift responsibilities outlined for each shift.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Twonight shifts per week, holiday rotation, may be included in weekend rotation.

Compensation commensurate with experience.
