Job summary

Fairview Health Services is seeking a Nursing Assistant at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN. This 72-hour per two-week role covers Night shift with 8-hour shifts and every other weekend rotation (Fri–Sun).

You will work on the Short Stay Unit, supporting rapid recovery and discharge processes, and collaborate closely with nurses to ensure safe, efficient patient care. Compensation aligns with union agreements.

Qualifications

• BLS for Healthcare Providers certification required; OnTrack participants must obtain BLS upon completion.
• Six months of direct care experience in long term care, home care, or acute care may be substituted as per policy.
• Enrollment in an LPN/RN or Nurse Practitioner program with clinical rotation may qualify.
• Current MN Nursing Assistant Registry certification on hire is acceptable per unit policy.

Responsibilities

• Assist licensed nurse in delivering patient care and handling basic tasks.
• Transport patients and equipment and maintain patient rooms.
• Take routine measurements and document patient status and inputs/outputs.
• Assist with admissions, transfers, and discharge procedures.
• Provide patient safety and comfort by timely responding to call lights and needs.

Fairview is looking for a Nursing Assistant at the M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN! This position is 72 hours per two weeks on the Night shift, for 8 hour shifts, and every other weekend rotation (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday).

Job Responsibilities

The Nursing Assistant is responsible for assisting the professional nurse/caregiver in the delivery of patient care, transporting patient and/or equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and the reordering and stocking of supplies. The Nursing Assistant does not work autonomously but works under the direction of a professional nurse. The Nursing Assistant may be given a patient care assignment based on unit needs and the discretion of the manager/charge nurse.

Provides basic patient care by performing routine duties to include:

• Personal grooming, bathing, toileting, Feeding,
• Skin care needs (clean and sterile dressing changes), applying ointments/creams,
• Oral hygiene,
• Specimen collection/testing,
• Position/ambulating,
• Changing linens,
• Promptly answers call lights.

Assists the nurse in monitoring patient condition.

• Accurately takes and records weights, input/output, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rates, respiration, oxygen saturation.
• Places patient on/off monitors or equipment.
• Reports unusual findings to the RN in a timely manner.

Assists with admissions, transfers, and discharge of patients.

• Orients patient and their family to the environment.
• Assures the patient's belongings are accounted for, documented upon admission, transfer and discharge.

Transports patients, equipment, specimen and supplies.

• Assures patients get to appointments on time.
• Uses transfer belt when assisting patients with transfers and/or ambulation.

Cleans sets up, and maintains rooms and equipment.

• Orders and stocks supplies.

Accurately documents tasks performed on appropriate form.

Performs other tasks as needed.

Required Qualifications

License/Certification/Registration

• Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required. Ontrack participants much be able to obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.

AND ONE or more of the following:

• Successful completion of Fairview's OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program.

Or

• Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting. (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician)

Or

• Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program.

Or

• Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position.
