Job summary

UNC Health is seeking a Nursing Assistant I for the Progressive Care Unit in Lenoir Health care network. The role involves direct patient care tasks under a nurse's supervision, including feeding, bathing, dressing and moving patients, as well as maintaining a courteous, collaborative patient-care environment.

Position is part-time with standard shift patterns; requires good interpersonal skills, communication and observation. Work is onsite at the Kinston facility in North Carolina.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Little or no previous work experience required.
• Certified by NC Department of Facility Services as a NAI; BCLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under the supervision of a professional nurse.
• Assist with feeding, bathing, dressing, grooming and mobility; change linens as needed.

Summary

The NAI is responsible for administering direct patient care and performing other duties deemed necessary to insure optimal patient care, under the direction and supervision of a professional nurse. The NAI performs duties, such as feeding, bathing, dressing, grooming, or moving patients or changing linens.

Responsibilities

Patients and families are served in providing direct patient care services. Performs duties and conducts interpersonal relationships in a manner to project a positive image of the department and hospital. Ensures that contacts with other health care members is friendly helpful and courteous.

Licensure/Registration/Certification

• Certified by the N. C. Department of Facility Services as a NAI. BCLS Certification.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements

• Good interpersonal, communication and observation skills are essential. Understanding of patient care needs according to developmental stages for various age groups.

Work Environment

• Exposure to blood borne pathogens, airborne pathogens, and other infectious diseases requiring the use of protective equipment; exposure to other hazards, such as radiation, toxic waste, chemical hazards based on the departments. Possible exposure to conditions, such as fumes, noxious odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.

Physical Requirement

• Standing, sitting, walking and working throughout the shift. Lifting, pulling, turning and pushing patients daily. Ability to use appropriate Safe-Patient Handling equipment. Visual acuity, auditory and verbal skills necessary. Stressful work periods and rotating shifts.
