Overview
The Nursing Assistant (Non-Certified) is responsible for learning to perform basic care of patients under the general supervision of an RN in the acute hospital setting. They also transport and transfer patients within the medical complex safely, and assist with data collection to facilitate the delivery of delegated nursing care.
What You Will Do
- Assist with basic care for patients in the areas of nutrition, elimination, comfort, mobility and safety.
- Transport and transfer patients within the medical complex using appropriate equipment and safety precautions as indicated by the patient's health status.
- Assist nursing staff in lifting and ambulating patients using appropriate practice guidelines.
- Maintain environment and equipment and locate and deliver appropriate equipment to Central Service and Maintenance departments.
- Work collaboratively with the health care team members to effectively communicate and document accurate information.
- Demonstrate dependability, organizational skills and effective use of time by setting priorities to complete delegated work within established time frames in accordance with unit guidelines.
- Adhere to Tidelands Health mission statement, policies and confidentiality standards.
- Participate in quality improvement activities to continuously improve patient care and unit operations.
- Participate in unit staff meetings.
Education Qualifications
- High School Diploma graduate or equivalent with the completion of state approved course of study for Nursing Assistant training; and/or documented completion of military equivalent; and/or successful completion of fundamentals semester of nursing school.
Experience Qualifications
- Two (2) years previous healthcare experience (Preferred).
Skills and Abilities
- Requires the use of computers, EMR software.
- Self-starter with the ability to multi-task.
- Works with patients, families, physicians, and other health care providers.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Licenses and Certifications
- Basic Life Support Certified (American Heart Association) required within 30 days of hire; recertification every two years is required.
