Job Summary

Geisinger offers a Nursing Assistant position in Advanced Acute Care Units with a $1500 sign‑on bonus for eligible candidates. The starting hourly rate is $15.75 with opportunities for higher rates based on experience and up to $3.00 shift differentials for evenings, nights, and weekends. Candidates also receive up to $40,000 in financial support to become a registered nurse.

Job Duties

• Provide patient care within the nursing assistant scope of practice and the multidisciplinary care plan established for each patient.
• Identify, observe, and document patient physical needs, and report any changes to licensed personnel promptly.
• Obtain and manage specimen integrity according to policy and physician orders.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living, including hygiene and changing linens.
• Perform one‑to‑one patient safety watch as assigned.
• Process and transport specimens to the laboratory in a timely manner.
• Conduct point‑of‑care patient tests and perform instrument maintenance and quality control.
• Troubleshoot and resolve equipment and supply issues.
• Serve as a preceptor and mentor for new staff and students.
• Carry out clerical duties for admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths and transcribe orders per unit standards.
• Coordinate the release and confirmation of ordered tests to appropriate departments.
• Arrange patient transportation to multiple tests.
• Obtain and convey electronic information pertinent to the nursing unit, scheduling tests and faxing consults as needed.
• Assist in ordering supplies and ensuring adequacy of floor stock and individual nursing supplies.
• Communicate with food services to confirm appropriate patient diets.
• Operate and troubleshoot clerical equipment, including scheduling maintenance of computers, fax machines, and phones.
• Access non‑controlled medication storage and transport non‑controlled medications for clinic or unit needs.
• Assist with transporting non‑controlled medications to and from Pharmacy and within the unit.
• Assist with transporting blood products to and from the Blood Bank when required.

Position Details

Full‑time; days/evenings and nights roles available on a 3–12‑hour shift basis. 7 a.m.–7:30 p.m. for days/evenings and 7 p.m.–7:30 a.m. for nights. Every other weekend and holiday rotation required.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) – required.

Experience: Minimum of 1 year of related work experience (preferred).
