Job summary

Henry Ford Health Rochester is seeking a Part-Time Nursing Assistant to provide direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. The role supports daily living activities, vital signs, hygiene, and routine treatments on the Med/Surg Telemetry Observation Overflow unit.

Responsibilities include call-light response, supply coordination, patient transport, and collaboration with the care team.

Qualifications

• Current AHA BLS certification or obtain within first week of hire.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic treatments as directed, including procedure setup, I&O, urine/stool collection, and glucose monitoring.
• Provides unit support by responding to call lights quickly and maintaining supplies and cleanliness.
• Assists in transporting patients and specimens, and delivers pharmacy orders as needed.
• Adheres to safety, infection control and mandatory competencies; supports mission and ethics.

** Department:** Med/Surg Telemetry Observation OverFlow

** Location:** Henry Ford Rochester - 1101 W University Drive Rochester, MI 48307

** Schedule:** Part-Time (24 Hours/Week), Every 3rd weekend and holiday rotation

** Shift:** 7a-730p / Days

** General Summary:** Understands and applies Henry Ford Health's mission statement by administering direct and indirect nursing care to the patients assigned under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), according to hospital policy. Actively supports and participates in the activities of the unit. Specific duties shall be assigned according to department and the care delivery system of the unit.

Responsibilities: Essential Functions

• Assists, under direction of the RN, in providing basic patient care duties including, but not limited to, taking vital signs, patient hygiene activities, feeding and bathing of patients, and post-mortem care. Performs activities of daily living appropriate to the patient’s condition.
• Administers, under direction of the RN, basic treatments to patient including, but not limited to, preparing special procedure set-up, I & O measurement, collection of urine and stools, application of cold/heat packs. Performs Glucose monitoring.
• Provides unit support by responding to call lights within 2-5 minutes, passing water and linens, locating equipment, stocking supplies, cleaning and other non-clinical duties assigned by the RN.
• Assists in the transportation of patients. Assists in transporting specimens to the lab and collection of blood and blood products from Blood Bank. Obtains and delivers pharmacy orders as needed

Non-Essential Functions

• Adheres to safety and infection control precautions.
• Maintains current BLS certification, mandatory continuing education and mandatory competencies.

• Promotes a positive work environment as evidenced by quality service and positive staff attitudes.
• The Nursing Assistant shall have access to and disclose personal health information only when reasonably necessary to perform the designated job-related responsibilities. Disclosure and/or use of personal health information for any purpose other than as reasonably necessary for designated job responsibilities is prohibited.
• Performs other duties as assigned and needed. Additional duties may include non-clinical duties consistent with meeting the needs of the patient care team and unit operations.
• This position requires the ability to identify age related differences within the persons served and the adjustment of treatment style and expectations as appropriate, including adjustments based on the person’s served cognitive function and learning ability. This will include taking into account their religious and cultural needs and preferences.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
• Current AHA BLS certification or obtain within first week of hire through HEART CODE required.
