Job summary

UNC Health is seeking a Nursing Assistant I for the Medicine Progressive Care Unit (MPCU) at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, NC. This 36-hour per week role includes rotating 12-hour shifts (7:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m.

and 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.) with weekend and holiday rotations, and requires a state Nursing Assistant I certification and BLS. The MPCU is a 24-bed intermediate care unit in the Medicine Service and has received the Gold Beacon Award for Excellence from AACN.

Qualifications

• Fluent in verbal and written English language.
• Able to develop basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist physicians and other health care providers with routine examinations and procedures, and procure equipment and supplies during emergencies.
• Provide patient care and monitor patients in a psychiatric setting, support therapy, de-escalate potentially aggressive patients, and assist with patient safety and milieu activities.
• Observe, document, and report changes in patient condition to RN or physician.
• Assist patients and families during admission, orientation, and discharge.
• Provide care including vital signs, measurements, specimen collection, wound care, glucose checks, and activities of daily living.
• Provide indirect care: maintain area cleanliness, restock supplies, transport patients and materials, and support orientation of new staff.
