Job summary

Essentia Health in Duluth, MN is seeking a Nursing Assistant (CNA) to provide direct patient care under supervision, supporting safety and comfort in Cardiovascular, Surgical, and Medical units.

The 0.8 FTE position offers day/evening/night shifts, weekends and holidays, with shift times 0600, 1400, and 2200. BLS certification is required or obtainable within 1 month of hire, and candidates may qualify via the Essentia Health Nursing Assistant Foundation pathway.

Qualifications

• BLS certified or ability to become certified within 1 month from hire date.
• Completion of Essentia Health Nursing Assistant Foundation course within 90 days of hire
• Must meet one of the following qualifications: 6 months of nursing assistant experience; completion of one semester of clinical rotations; enrollment into the Essentia Health Nursing Assistant Foundation Course within 30 days; verifiable completion of a recognized nurse aide training program; current registration on applicable state nursing assistant registry

Responsibilities

• Providing direct care to patients and serving patient needs under direct supervision to contribute to safety and comfort.
• Organizing and implementing non-nursing functions to facilitate workflow and provide excellent customer service to patients, families, visitors and staff.
• Transferring patients safely, taking vital signs, completing recordkeeping, and reporting changes in patient condition to the RN.

Education Qualifications:

Responsible for providing direct care to patients and serving the needs of patients in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort, under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager, Assistant Head Nurse, and/or Department Director (possibly with guidance from an LPN) to contribute to meeting the mission and goals of Essentia Health. Duties will vary by patient care unit/department and include but are not limited to: Providing personal hygiene care, assisting with nutritional needs, providing comfort care and other assistance, appropriately and safely transferring patients, taking vital signs and completing recordkeeping, recognizing and promptly reporting changes in patient condition to the RN, and maintaining a safe, clean environment for patients to promote the healing process. Works within job scope to meet the requirements of the Joint Commission and other applicable federal, state and local regulatory and accrediting agencies.

Along with organizes, and implements the non-nursing functions of assigned unit(s) to facilitate workflow, enhance unit productivity, and provide excellent customer service to patients, families, visitors and staff. Position promotes efficient unit function and indirect resident care. Performs clerical and reception duties; requisition supplies, equipment, and services as directed; assist with scheduling.
