Nursing Assistant - Community Living Center - Dementia

Department: Department of Veterans Affairs

The Central Iowa Health Care System is recruiting for a Nursing Assistant position within the Community Living Center - CLC1 in Des Moines, Iowa. This positions requires knowledge that enables the Nursing Assistant to effectively provide care to a veteran population with widely diverse conditions/diagnoses, including caring for residents at end-of-life.

Key Responsibilities

Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Duties include, but not limited to: Assisting medical personnel in the care or treatment of residents with diverse conditions/diagnoses. Preparing, ambulating, transporting, and positioning residents with use of equipment. Providing a variety of personal care including but not limited to bathing, shaving, feeding, incontinence care, trimming nails, range of motion, and ambulation of residents.

Performing a wide variety of duties aimed at increasing the comfort and spirit of the resident. Encouraging residents and assisting in completing restorative programs. Recognizing and reporting obvious changes in resident condition. Delivering care to residents in a respectful, non-judgmental manner. Maintaining resident privacy/confidentiality and residents rights to privacy/confidentiality.

Documenting resident information on flow sheets and Computerized Patient Records System (CPRS). Providing resident information to the accountable LPN/RN for inclusion in the resident's plan of care.

Work Schedule: Night Shift, six 12 hour shifts from 1930-0800 and one 8 hour shift from 2330-0800, with alternating weekends and holidays Compressed/Flexible: Available Recruitment/Relocation Incentives (Sign-on Bonus): Not authorized Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not authorized SLRP: This occupational series is eligible for the Student Loan Repayment Program (SLRP). Repayment is limited to $10,000 annually, up to $60,000 in lifetime awards.

Participants must sign a service agreement and maintain an acceptable level of performance to remain eligible for this program. Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).

Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience. Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Telework: Not available Virtual: This is not a virtual position.

Requirements & Education

IMPORTANT: If basing all or part of your basic qualifications on education or training, an unofficial copy of college transcripts showing completion of one year of education above high school related to the Nursing Assistant occupation or documentation showing completion of an intensive, specialized, occupation-related course of study of less than one year as a nursing assistant is required to verify you meet the basic qualification requirements.

If basing your qualifications on education at the GS-4 or -5 levels, you must submit a copy of all relevant transcripts with your application. You do not need to submit an official copy; however, your submitted transcript must include your name, name of school, name of program, total credits completed, date degree/certificate conferred. Your transcript will be reviewed for relevant coursework; therefore, the copy you submit must be legible.

Candidates who do not yet meet the basic education requirement but are currently enrolled in a post high school technical school, junior college, college, or university completing coursework related to the Nursing Assistant occupation, must provide proof of enrollment at the time of application. Note: Only education or degrees recognized by the U.S.

Department of Education from accredited colleges, universities, schools, or institutions may be used to qualify for Federal employment.
