Job summary

Westchester Medical Center Health Network is seeking a Nursing Assistant to support the nursing staff and help maximize care for patients and families in a hospital setting.

The role involves assisting with hygiene, mobility, nutrition, communication, vital signs, rounds, safety checks, and general duties, with preferred experience and a high school diploma. BLS certification is preferred.

Qualifications

  • 1 year experience working as a nursing assistant, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Hygiene/Grooming: Provides or assists the patient with services that relate to patient cleanliness including: bath and oral care, shampoo, shave, grooming, peri-care and dressing, post mortem care, utilizing Standard Precautions.
  • Mobility: Provide or assist the patient with the services that relate to physical mobility i.e., ambulation, repositioning, and bed rest. Assists with transfer of patients, assist with wheelchairs, walkers, cane, over bed frame. Assists with restraint application.
  • Nutrition: Provide or assist the patient with services that relate to food, beverage, and fluid intake, i.e., setting up meal tray, feeding patients, NPO, and calorie count maintenance.
  • Communication: Reports significant observations to RN.
  • Vital Signs, Treatment/Procedures: Assesses the patient's vital signs, including temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and respirations per unit specific policy. Measures postural vital signs, weight & height (including bed scale), I & O (except for gastric and parenteral fluids), sitz baths, incentive spirometry, and pulse oximetry.
  • Rounds/Safety Checks: Performs ongoing unit rounds to ensure patients' comfort and safety needs are met, answers call bell.
  • Clean-up: Maintains patient and unit environment in a neat, clean, and orderly manner/ bedmaking.
  • General Duties: Ensures that all supplies/linen are maintained at unit pars, transport equipment, specimen collection, other unit/environmental duties assigned.
  • Emergency assistance, i.e., assist with CPR, exchange of crash cart.

EXPERIENCE

EDUCATION
  • High school diploma or equivalent, required.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
  • Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.
  • BLS, preferred.
