Key duties include monitoring vitals, assisting with daily living activities, documenting care, and collaborating with the interprofessional team to support patient flow and high-quality care.

Qualifications

• Post high school diploma or certificate program required.
• Must have successfully completed Med/Surg 1 prior to application.
• BLS/CPR certification from AHA or Red Cross required.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Monitor vital signs, take blood glucose, and record intake/output under RN supervision.
• Assist with activities of daily living (bathing, grooming, eating).
• Report abnormal findings to nursing staff.
• Keep unit and patient rooms stocked, clean, and orderly.
• Develop clinical nurse skills through supervised, hands-on experience.
• Document in accordance with clinical guidelines.
• Collaborate with interprofessional team to improve patient flow and apply Lean principles.

7A Medical SurgicalTelemetry Medicine Observation Unit (7A) is a medical/surgical telemetry unit, specializing in the care of cardiac patients. This 28-bed, fast-paced unit has a strong team culture. This is a great environment for critical thinking, problem solving and career advancement. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5 and CNAs have a ratio of 1:12. For the past five year, this unit has had top scores for employee satisfaction.

Job Summary

The Nursing Apprentice, under the direct supervision of an RN, performs basic patient care activities. The Nursing Apprentice role allows nursing students an opportunity to enhance clinical skills in a hospital environment while still enrolled in an ADN or BSN program. The Nursing Apprentice I adheres to the American Nurses Association (ANA) standards of professional nursing and performance, and the ANA Code of Ethics (2015) to provide care to all patients. Utilizes the Theory of Human Caring and Caritas in daily practice. "Jean Watson, PhD, RN, AHN-BC, FAAN, Founder / Director, Watson Caring Science Institute".

Essential Functions :

• Performs basic patient care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including but not limited to, monitoring vital signs, taking blood glucose measurements, and recording intake and output. (30%)
• Assists patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living, including but not limited to, bathing, grooming and eating. (10%)
• Reports abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff. (10%)
• Assists with keeping unit(s) and patient rooms stocked, clean, and orderly. (10%)
• Develop specific clinical nurse skills through observation of experts and supervised, hands‑on experience. (10%)
• Documentation that complies with clinical guidelines. (10%)
• Partners with interprofessional team on healthcare consumer throughput by proactively solving problems related to capacity and healthcare consumer flow. (10%)
• Collaborates with interprofessional teams to incorporate Lean principles for quality improvement initiatives. (10%)

Education :

Post High School Diploma or Certificate Program Required

Work Experience :

less than 1 year Must have successfully completed Med/Surg 1 at time of application with the ability to provide transcript with grade. Required

Licenses :

BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.

Ability to ensure confidentiality of patient information by creating and maintaining a secure and trusting environment by not sharing information learned on the job, except when necessary in the performance of the job responsibilities or to improve a patient's care.
