Job summary

CommonSpirit Health is seeking a Vascular Access Nurse for the Post Procedure Unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital & Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. In this role, you will be responsible for patient care planning and specialized vascular access techniques, including the placement of peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs).

You will troubleshoot complications, educate staff, and contribute to the development of policies and procedures. The position offers competitive pay ranging from $43.95 to $46.46 per hour, along with comprehensive benefits, including an education benefit program.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Competency in PICC placement and completion of an approved PICC training program.
  • One year recent acute‑care experience preferred.

Job description

Job Summary

Vascular Access Nurse in the Post Procedure Unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital & Medical Center responsible for coordinating patient care planning across disciplines, leveraging nursing processes and critical thinking to maintain patient safety and well‑being. Specializing in difficult vascular access, you will assess patients for appropriate Vascular Access Device (VAD) needs, place peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs), and manage long‑term VADs.

Responsibilities
  • Directly place PICCs and challenging peripheral catheters.
  • Troubleshoot and declot VADs to resolve complications.
  • Contact physicians for medical orders, obtain patient consent, and provide comprehensive teaching and follow‑up care for PICC line maintenance.
  • Serve as a resource for staff support and education on PICC care and complication management.
  • Write policies and procedures related to PICC placement and maintenance.
  • Present quarterly quality assurance data on PICC outcomes and contribute to performance‑improvement projects.
  • Coordinate tasks, manage a heavy workload, and uphold the highest standards of care.
Qualifications – Required
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Registered Nurse with an AZ or Compact license.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Competency in PICC placement and completion of an approved PICC training program.
Qualifications – Preferred
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • One year recent acute‑care experience.
  • One year PICC placement experience.
Benefits

Education Benefit program – eligible employees receive up to $18,000 over five years (full‑time) or up to $9,000 over five years (part‑time) after 180 days of employment.

Pay Range: $43.95 – $46.46 per hour.
