Job summary

Alleghany Highlands Community Services (AHCS) is seeking a Nurse Supervisor to provide nursing leadership for our new Crisis Receiving Center (CRC). This role offers an opportunity for an experienced RN to shape nursing services within a 24-hour behavioral health crisis program while remaining actively involved in direct patient care.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited registered nursing program and a Virginia RN license are required.
• A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is preferred.
• Considerable nursing experience, especially in behavioral health, crisis, emergency, residential, or substance use, is preferred.
• Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
• A valid driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide and oversee nursing assessments, triage, medication reconciliation and administration, monitoring, and other nursing interventions.
• Supervise and support RNs and LPNs, including orientation, training, coaching, performance feedback, evaluations, and competency development.
• Coordinate nursing assignments and coverage in partnership with the Director of Crisis Services.
• Serve as a clinical resource and provide hands-on nursing coverage when needed.
• Collaborate with prescribers and the interdisciplinary team on treatment planning, handoffs, discharge planning, and referrals.
• Promote medication safety, infection prevention, emergency preparedness, and high-quality nursing practices.
• Review nursing documentation, incidents, medication errors, and quality indicators and assist with continuous improvement efforts.

This is an opportunity for an experienced Registered Nurse to help shape nursing services within a 24-hour behavioral health crisis program while remaining actively involved in direct patient care.

The Nurse Supervisor provides clinical nursing leadership, coordinates nursing coverage and assignments, supervises nursing staff, and supports safe, timely assessment, medication administration, monitoring, stabilization, and transitions of care. This position works closely with prescribers, crisis clinicians, peers, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to provide person-centered crisis services.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced behavioral health environment, supporting staff through challenging situations, collaborating across disciplines, and maintaining a calm, trauma-informed and person-centered approach to care.

The CRC operates 24 hours a day. Evening, weekend, holiday, or emergency coverage may be required based on the assigned schedule and operational needs.
