Job summary

As an employee of the Fairfield County Board of Developmental Disabilities, the job incumbent shall comply with all Board policies at all times, and shall demonstrate respect for, support the dignity of, and observe the rights of all individuals served by the agency. This is a licensed individual who provides nursing services to students in an educational setting.

Duties

40% Provides general nursing care to students. Performs skilled nursing procedures.

Acting on physician’s directions, administers prescribed medication; maintains medication accountability records; maintains medication equipment and supplies.

Screens for communicable and nuisance diseases. Provides consultation services with instructors, parents, guardians and/or significant others regarding health and safety-related issues of students. Assists in the area of personal health-related matters (i.e. grooming, hygiene, safety, nutrition).

Assists in the development of policies and procedures related to health and safety issues.

20% Requests, secures, and follows-up on medical information related to assigned students. Prepares and maintains written reports and reports as required on, but not limited to, student medical history and information, program objectives and progress data for regular evaluations.

5% Relates program philosophy, procedures and goals to the general public in a positive manner.

5% Maintains professional ethics in keeping with the confidentiality of information and material.

5% Maintains a cooperative relationship with coworkers and the family of each child in order to best facilitate and implement the Individual Education Plan.

5% Performs other related duties as assigned.

5% Complies, as necessary, with Safety Rules established for the purpose of fulfilling compliance with Ohio Employment Risk Reduction Standards, Rules, or Orders, through the utilization of protective equipment and decontamination techniques.

5% Trains staff, monitors and delegates administration of medication and nursing tasks when appropriate per County Board policy, Ohio Nursing Board (ONB) and the Ohio Department of DD.

4% Participates as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team working with other professional staff assessing, developing, implementing, evaluating, and modifying the Individual Education Plan.

3% Participates in and/or provides staff training programs, reads professional literature and attends seminars, academic classes or workshops to enhance professional knowledge and skills in areas such as, but not limited to, nursing care, health, safety, behavior modification, systematic training, counseling, mental retardation, seizures and other medical/school health issues.

2% Is available for parent conferences throughout the year.

1% Directs the work of assistants, volunteers, students in training and enrollees in training, as directed.

Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications.
  • Valid Ohio drivers license and a driving record acceptable to agency’s insurance carrier. Maintains personal vehicle insurance.
  • Ability to accurately, efficiently and effectively use technology to assist students with communication, complete required training and certification processes
  • Successfully pass a BCII background check and drug screening check
  • Experience in DD field preferred
  • Must be physically capable to lift up to 50 lbs. per lifting policy, carry or move students in a safe manner, according to in-service training
