Job summary

The House of the Good Shepherd in Utica, NY is seeking a part-time per diem Registered Nurse to deliver nursing care within state licensure guidelines. This role supports pediatric and behavioral health services and includes a $1,500 sign-on bonus for part-time eligibility.

The RN will perform admission assessments, coordinate child health appointments, document in clinical records, and assist physicians with evaluations while ensuring policy compliance and quality improvement participation.

Qualifications

  • Current New York State licensure/registration as a Professional Registered Nurse.
  • Minimum 1 year general nursing experience.
  • CPR certification.
  • Experience with children or emotionally disturbed individuals; pediatric or mental health nursing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs admission assessments on new clients with annual and “as needed” updates.
  • Assists physicians with evaluation of children and follows up on orders.
  • Coordinates scheduling of children’s health-related appointments.
  • Documents information in clinical records and participates in QA/QI activities.
  • Assumes on-call nursing coverage and infection control per policy.

Per Diem/Part-time$1,500 Sign-on Bonus for Part-timeBasic Function/Overall Responsibilities: To provide nursing services within the scope of licensure granted by the State of New York in accordance with agency-established job description and policy and procedures.Principal Assigned Responsibilities:Performs admission assessments on new clients with annual and “as needed” updates.Performs quarterly and “as needed” updates on children’s’ heights/weights/blood pressures.Attends resident progress conferences as required.Participates in medication-related functions which may include, but are not limited to, ordering, checking, logging in, distributing, and administering medications.Assists HGS physicians (psychiatrist/pediatrician/nurse practitioner) with evaluation of children and follows-up on any orders resulting from such evaluations.Participates in scheduling children’s; health-related appointments upon admission, annually, and “as needed”.Documents appropriate information in clinical records.Carriers out and follows-up on physicians’ orders.Participates in medication reviews with physicians and case conferences as needed.Coordinates services with other HGS staff members and families.Ensures presence of appropriate data and documentation in clinical records via chart reviews.Participates in departmental and agency-wide QA/QI activities.Maintains supplies and equipment in accordance with established policy and procedures.Attends regularly scheduled staff meetings.Assumes “on-call” responsibilities in accordance with established policy and procedures.Performs employee health screenings.Follows established agency policy and procedure regarding Infections Control.Assumes relief of nursing supervisor duties when assigned.Review, revise, and co-sign documentation assessments completed by Licensed Practical Nurses.Other tasks as requested by supervisor(s).Education and Experience Requirements:Current New York State licensure/registration as a Professional Registered Nurse.Minimum 1-year general nursing experience.Experience with children and/or emotionally disturbed individuals; orpediatric or mental health nursing experience.Current CPR certification.Equal Opportunity EmployerThe House of the Good Shepherd is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of age, race, creed, color, national origin, sexual orientation, military status, sex, pregnancy, gender identity or expression, disability, marital status, or any other basis covered by appropriate law.We are committed to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and accessible environment where diversity is valued and recognized as a source of strength and enrichment.
