Job summary

Orlando Health, Inc. is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider for inpatient management and co-management of surgical patients at ORMC in Downtown Orlando.

The role supports physician collaboration, performs advanced procedures, and participates in multidisciplinary rounds and quality initiatives. A Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant license and board certification are required, with extensive perioperative experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manages patients with high independence and minimal physician supervision in a highly specialized area.
• Assesses patients’ physical and psychosocial status; develops diagnosis and treatment plans with interdisciplinary team.
• Surgically closes wounds, incision and drainage, debridement, and dressings.
• Scrubs with collaborating surgeon in the operating room.
• Performs complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as credentialed.
• Diagnoses medical/surgical problems and prescribes necessary treatments.
• Implements management based on lab results, exams, and follow-up studies.
• Identifies and resolves patient care issues to improve outcomes.

Position Summary

In collaboration with a physician, and according to the collaborative practice protocol provides inpatient management, consultations, and co-management of surgical patients in the acute care and practice setting

Responsibilities

• Manages patients with the highest degree of independence in provision of patient care services with minimal physician supervision and in a highly specialized area and across the continuum.
• Assesses the physical and psychosocial status of patients by means of interview, health history, physical examination, diagnostic studies and recognizes deviations from the normal. Then develops a diagnosis and works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to formulate and implements the treatment plan
• Surgically close wounds, incision and drainage, debridement, dressing (the surgeon must remain in the immediate area).
• Scrub with collaborating surgeon in operating room
• Performs complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, as credentialed
• Diagnosing medical and surgical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care..
• Implements appropriate management based on laboratory results, physical assessment, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, admission and discharge care in accordance with evidence based medicine.
• Identifies, analyzes, and resolves patient care issues to foster significant improvement in patient care and outcomes
• Dictates and documents in an accurate and timely manner.
• Performs patient education and maintains provision of preventive health services
• Conducts or participates in multidisciplinary rounds.
• Participates in the department call rotation and/ or weekend/holiday rounding as required.

• Participates in quality initiatives to ensure consistent attainment of key quality indicators
• Supports IRB approved clinical research/trials through a variety of activities including but not limited to: ordering diagnostic tests, prescreening patients, recording laboratory and diagnostic results, administering therapeutic interventions per trial protocols and documenting outcomes per hospital and trial protocols.
• Acts as an advanced resource for the specialty area
• Develops a diagnosis and works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to formulate an implement the treatment plan
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
• Acts as a role model and resource person for staff.
• Assists in teaching students, residents and interns in complex techniques and procedures.
• Participates in review and revision of policies and procedures.
• Establishes relationships with professional and other health-related groups within the community.
• Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication with diverse populations, including physicians, employees, patients, and families.
• Participates in basic science and clinical research projects.

Qualifications

Education/Training

Nurse Practitioner

• MN or MSN or DNP or PhD or DNS degree in nursing.

Physician Assistant

• Graduate of accredited physician assistant program.

Licensure/Certification

Nurse Practitioner

• APRN license in the state of Florida.
• After July 1, 2006, licensure applicants are required to have national advanced certification from an approved nursing specialty board.
• Maintains current BLS certification.

Physician Assistant

• Maintain current physician assistant licensure in State of Florida.
• Maintain current BLS/healthcare certification.

Experience

• Two (2) years of specialty required
• Five (5) years of Advance Practice Provider experience preferred
