Job summary

Diagnostic Group is seeking a full-time Surgery Nurse Practitioner to join our surgical team in Beaumont, Texas. The NP will work with surgeons and multidisciplinary teams across preoperative, inpatient, and postoperative care to ensure high-quality, coordinated patient care.

The ideal candidate will have strong clinical assessment and critical-thinking skills, effective communication, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced hospital environment. Weekend/holiday rotations are required.

Qualifications

  • Current and unrestricted APRN license in Texas.
  • National board certification as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • BLS certification required.
  • ACLS certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct preoperative assessments and history reviews.
  • Monitor and manage patients postoperatively during inpatient stay.
  • Coordinate care with surgeons and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Document care and communicate changes in patient condition.
  • Assist with discharge planning and patient education.

Job description

Diagnostic Group is seeking a full-time Surgery Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our surgical team in Beaumont, Texas.

This position works closely with our surgeons and multidisciplinary care teams to provide comprehensive care to surgical patients throughout the preoperative, inpatient, and postoperative phases of treatment. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical assessment and critical-thinking skills, excellent communication abilities, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical and hospital environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Preoperative Care
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and physical examinations prior to surgery.
  • Review medical histories, medications, laboratory results, imaging, and other diagnostic information.
  • Order and review appropriate diagnostic tests as clinically indicated.
  • Assist in evaluating and preparing patients for surgical procedures.
  • Identify and communicate potential clinical concerns to the surgical team.
Postoperative & Inpatient Management
  • Conduct hospital rounds and assist surgeons with the ongoing management of surgical patients.
  • Monitor patients following surgical procedures and evaluate their clinical progress.
  • Assess surgical wounds and provide or coordinate appropriate wound care.
  • Monitor laboratory and diagnostic results and communicate significant findings to the supervising surgeon.
  • Assist with medication management and postoperative treatment plans within the NP’s scope of practice.
  • Coordinate discharge planning, patient education, follow-up care, and appropriate referrals.
  • Provide clear discharge instructions regarding medications, wound care, activity restrictions, follow-up appointments, and warning signs requiring medical attention.
Collaboration & Coordination of Care
  • Work closely with surgeons, physicians, nursing staff, case management, and other members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Assist with coordination of treatment plans and continuity of care throughout the patient’s surgical episode.
  • Facilitate effective patient handoffs and communication between providers and care settings.
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and complete documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Communicate changes in patient condition promptly to the appropriate surgeon or physician.
Qualifications
Licensure & Certification
  • Current and unrestricted Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license, or equivalent advanced practice license, in the State of Texas.
  • Current applicable national board certification as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
Clinical Skills
  • Strong physical assessment and clinical decision-making skills.
  • Excellent critical-thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to recognize changes in patient condition and appropriately escalation concerns.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR).
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with surgeons and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Previous surgical, inpatient, acute care, or hospital-based experience is preferred.
Schedule
  • Full-time position
  • 8:00am - 5:00pm; Monday - Friday
  • Participation in weekend and holiday rotations is required.
