Job summary

Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join a growing Family Medicine team in Temple, TX. This is a new graduate-friendly role with extensive onboarding and a structured 12–18 month transition-to-practice program.

The position includes comprehensive mentorship through the Enhanced Care Team model, on-site radiology and lab services, and dedicated Medical Assistant support to manage a broad spectrum of primary care needs.

Qualifications

• The NP must be certified and licensed as a Texas Nurse Practitioner.
• Current Texas RN license or compact privilege and Texas APRN certification.
• BLS certification within 30 days of hire or transfer.
• Less than 1 year of experience is expected.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients through comprehensive or problem-focused exams and histories.
• Order and interpret labs and diagnostic tests.
• Prescribe medications and perform procedures per protocol.
• Develop and implement treatment plans with the care team.
• Counsel patients on medications, nutrition and health promotion.

Job Summary

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) Primary Care is a licensed, certified healthcare provider. They provide direct patient care and have prescriptive authority. They are credentialed, privileged, and billed as an independent provider by Medicare and Medicaid. The Advanced Practice Provider offers medical care based on the supervising physician's scope of practice.

These providers typically provide care to patients in an internal medicine, family medicine, geriatric or pediatric clinic.

Essential Functions Of The Role

• Assesses the physical and mental condition of patients by performing and obtaining comprehensive or problem-focused physical examinations and medical histories.
• Orders, collects, interprets, and evaluates laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs.
• Prescribes, recommends, or uses medical drug therapies or other treatments. Performs procedures following approved protocols, focusing on efficacy, safety, and cost.
• Recommends interventions to modify behavior associated with health risks.
• Formulates and implements comprehensive patient treatment plans based on assessments, evidence-based medicine, and standards of care. Collaborates with physicians and team members when appropriate. Evaluates patient's response to care and its effectiveness.
• Counsels patients and families on medical processes, illness management, medication, nutrition, and health promotion. Counsels patients about drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with food supplements, over-the-counter medications, and herbal remedies.
• Maintains appropriate records detailing the patient's treatment plans and outcomes. Initiates timely consultation and referral when the problem exceeds scope of practice or expertise.
• Provide consultation level services for conditions/problems related to the Provider’s specialty and training.
• Perform invasive procedures specific to scope of practice and knowledge of the provider as delegated by supervising Physician.
• May provide care to patients in a team-based model. Focus on acute and chronic illness management and population health.

• Knowledge of information and techniques to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.

• Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire or transfer.
• National Nurse Practitioner certification in area of specialty.
