Job Description

New England Cancer Specialists (NECS) is seeking a Full‑time 4 days/40 hour nurse practitioner/physician assistant for our Lewiston/Rumford clinic. The successful candidate will have a strong oncology/hematology background and will see a broad spectrum of cancer patients, traveling between Lewiston and Rumford clinics (2 days each). The APP collaborates closely with physicians in diagnosing, treating, and managing patient care in a fast‑paced outpatient environment.

NECS is a private medical practice with 18 oncologists and hematologists, serving the region from 5 locations in Maine and New Hampshire. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Elicit medical histories of patients, perform physical examinations, and develop a differential diagnosis/problem list.
  • Assess patients' physical and psychosocial status by means of interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies.
  • Order and interpret laboratory tests and radiologic data; diagnose and treat comorbid illnesses within the scope of a patient's hematologic/oncologic diagnosis; perform procedures as delegated by the attending physician; prescribe medications in accordance with federal and state regulations.
  • Determine the eligibility of patients for entry into clinical trials based on findings.
  • Evaluate the quality of care provided and recommend changes for improvement.
  • Initiate appropriate actions to facilitate the implementation of therapeutic plans that are consistent with patients' continuing healthcare needs.
  • Educate patients and families about the disease process and treatment.
  • Provide information to patients and families related to symptom management and psychosocial response to the diagnosis of cancer and related treatment.

Travel: rare.

Required Experience
  • State of Maine Nurse Practitioner/Physician Associate license required or ability to obtain.
  • State of New Hampshire Nurse Practitioner/Physician Associate license required or ability to obtain.
  • Three (3) years' experience in oncology and hematology.
  • Master's degree required.
  • Women's health experience desired.
  • Ability to collaborate with physicians, nurses, and support staff.
  • Ability to communicate with patients in a clear, concise, and compassionate manner.
