Job summary

American Family Care (AFC) seeks a Part-Time Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our urgent care team in New Bedford, Massachusetts. You’ll assess, diagnose, and treat patients of all ages, manage acute conditions, and perform minor procedures in a fast‑paced clinic.

This role offers scheduling flexibility with at least one shift per week, two weekend shifts per month, and one holiday per year, plus the option to take more shifts.

Qualifications

• Certified Nurse Practitioner (ANCC or AANP) with an active state license.
• 2+ years of experience in urgent care, family medicine, or emergency care.
• Urgent care procedures and fast-paced clinic experience.
• Active BLS certification or ability to obtain during onboarding.

Responsibilities

• Assess, diagnose, and treat patients of all ages in an urgent care setting.
• Manage acute conditions, infections, and injuries.
• Perform minor procedures such as suturing, splinting, and incision & drainage.
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests (labs, X-rays, EKGs).
• Counsel patients on care plans and preventive health strategies.

As a Part-Time Provider

you will be committing to a minimum of the following scheduling and can always add more shifts as needs allow:

• Includes 2 weekend shifts per month and 1 holiday per year

What You’ll Do

• Assess, diagnose, and treat patients of all ages in an urgent care setting
• Manage acute conditions, infections, and injuries
• Perform minor procedures such as suturing, splinting, and incision & drainage
• Conduct comprehensive physicals, including DOT and employment exams
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests (labs, X-rays, EKGs)
• Counsel patients on care plans and preventive health strategies
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation
• Collaborate with supervising physicians and team members to ensure quality care

Who We’re Looking For

• Certified Nurse Practitioner (ANCC or AANP) with an active state license or Certified Physician Assistant (NCCPA) with an active state license
• 2+ years of experience in urgent care, family medicine, or emergency care
• Skilled in urgent care procedures and comfortable in a fast-paced clinic
• Excellent communication skills and a patient-centered mindset
• Active BLS certification required or must be obtained within defined onboarding period
