Job description

Our 30-bed MSICU cares for medical and surgical patients ranging from newborn to early adult. The patient population is diverse with a variety of medical and surgical needs. Our newborn population primarily includes patients with congenital diaphragmatic hernia or those needing extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) soon after birth. The children and early adults have a variety of diagnoses, including but not limited to acute respiratory distress syndrome, multiple trauma, septic shock, congenital malformations, and liver, lung, and kidney transplantation. We are seeking a qualified Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to become an integral part of a team that believes in the value of personalized care and the power of multidisciplinary teams to provide the very best care possible to our patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide care to infants, children, and adults with critical illness.
  • Collaborate with supervising physicians to conduct patient assessments, medical histories, physical exams, and diagnose health and developmental problems.
  • Manage therapeutic regimens for patients with acute and chronic disease according to approved guidelines.
  • Participate in intensive care unit medical rounds, including presenting clinical information and updates on patient progress and management.
  • Assist with establishing treatment plans and participate in all teaching activities conducted by the MSICU attending staff.
  • Participate in ongoing research in the MSICU and offer expertise as a consultant and educator to other staff.
Minimal Qualifications
Education
  • Master of Science in Nursing or Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies
Experience
  • Minimum of 1 year of critical care experience as an Advanced Practice Provider preferred. Candidates with 2-3 years critical care experience as an RN may also be considered.
  • Solid medical knowledge base for critical care medicine; pediatric experience preferred.
  • Critical thinking skills and adaptability.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with medical and surgical colleagues, staff, and trainees.
  • Schedule: 40 hours/week, nights, every 4th weekend, and some holidays.
Licensure/Certifications
  • Current MA NP or MA PA license with PNP or FNP certification

Sign-on bonus of $5,000.00 (for people who have not worked at BCH in the past 2 years)
