A Brief Overview

This position is for an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant on the Inpatient Neuroscience Unit (NSU) at CHOP’s Main Hospital. The NSU is a medical‑surgical unit caring for neurology and neurosurgical patients with a 24‑patient team capacity. It includes an Epilepsy Monitoring Unit that evaluates and diagnoses seizure disorders. The neurology population includes patients with epilepsy, ketogenic diet initiation, multiple sclerosis, Guillain‑Barré syndrome, transverse myelitis, encephalitis, optic neuritis, migraine disorders, and other general neurology diagnoses. Post‑operative care is provided for neurosurgical patients including complex tethered cord repairs, Chiari decompressions, and device implantation. This role involves limited procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assesses the complex acute, critical and chronically ill patient for urgent and emergent conditions. Uses relevant data to evaluate for physiologic instability and formulates a plan of care.
• Performs therapeutic interventions to stabilize acute and critical health problems. Specific interventions are listed in the Scope of Practice Document.
• Analyzes the indications, contraindications, risk of complications and cost‑benefits of therapeutic interventions.
• Manages the plan of care through evaluation, modification and documentation based on the patient’s response to therapy. Addresses changes in condition to optimize outcomes.
• Incorporates health promotion, health protection and injury prevention measures into the plan of care within the context of acute, critical, and chronic illness.
• Facilitates the patient’s transitions between and within healthcare settings.
• Serves as an educational resource to the patient/family, nursing staff, and provider team. Acts as a consultant to multidisciplinary healthcare team members.
• Participates in scholarly activities including research and education. Maintains required competencies, identifies learning needs, and seeks educational opportunities. Supports professional development of others as preceptor and mentor.
• Demonstrates a commitment to patient safety by identifying safety issues, reporting potential errors and changing practice to enhance safety. Shares errors or potential errors through system reporting mechanisms. Demonstrates shared accountability for safe practice.

Education Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Physician Assistant – Required

Compensation

Salary range: $117,900.00 – $156,300.00 per year. Salary ranges are shown for full‑time jobs; part‑time pay will be adjusted accordingly. This job is eligible for an incentive program. Factors such as skills and experience may result in an offer above the salary range.
