A Brief Overview

CHOP is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to work as a hospital provider on our Gastroenterology unit at our Main Hospital. You will be the front-line provider for patients with medical needs, performing assessments and creating plans of care, ordering medication and diagnostic studies, interpreting results, and updating patients and families accordingly. You will be the point person for all consult and interdisciplinary team member for our patients. In collaboration with an attending physician, you’ll work with a patient population that matches your delineation of privileges and skill set; collaborate with a range of healthcare professionals; and engage in professional development, education, and research.

The role will also include off-shift responsibility. The off-shift rotation schedule may include days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays and will be determined by the clinical needs of the practice environment.

The ideal candidate will have:
  • At least 1 year of experience practicing as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner
What You Will Do
  • Assess the complex acute, critical and chronically ill patient for urgent and emergent conditions. Uses relevant data to evaluate for physiologic instability. Utilizes the data to formulate a plan of care.
  • Perform therapeutic interventions to stabilize acute and critical health problems. Specific interventions are listed in the Scope of Practice Document and approved as a part of the credentialing/privileging process.
  • Analyze the indications, contraindications, risk of complications and cost-benefits of therapeutic interventions.
  • Manage the plan of care through evaluation, modification and documentation according to the patient's response to therapy. Manage changes in condition with a focus on optimizing the patient outcomes.
  • Incorporate health promotion, health protection and injury prevention measures into the plan of care within the context of the complex acute, critical and chronic illness.
  • Facilitate the patient's transitions between and within health care settings.
  • Serve as an educational resource to the patient/family, nursing staff, and provider team. Act as a consultant to multidisciplinary health care team members.
  • Participate in scholarly activities including research and education. Participate in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate educational offerings. Participate in the professional development of others. Act as a preceptor and mentor to support the development of nurses, nurse practitioners, students, and other health care providers.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to patient safety by speaking up about safety issues and changing practice to enhance safety. Share errors or potential errors through system reporting mechanisms. Demonstrate shared accountability for safe practice.

  • Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) – Pennsylvania State Licensing Board – required upon hire

  • Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) – Pennsylvania State Licensing Board – required upon hire
