Job summary

Duke Neurology Clinic, Morreene Road Headache Clinic in Durham, NC, is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider to collaborate with attending physicians and deliver direct patient care. Responsibilities include data collection, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and coordinating care.

Hours are Monday–Friday, day shift, with flexibility to meet patient needs. The role requires NP or PA training, licensure in NC, and DEA prescriptive authority.

Qualifications

Job Summary

We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider within the Department of Neurology for the Morreene Road Headache Clinic in Durham, NC to work in collaboration with attending physicians, collect and document data, conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, order and schedule laboratory studies and professional consultations, and provide direct patient care services. Primary hours will be Monday through Friday, day shift, with hours flexible to meet the needs of the patients.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform physical examinations
• Establish and follow plan of care in conjunction with MD
• Prescribe appropriate medications to a specialty pharmacy that will handle prior authorization and other necessary paperwork. Order refills as needed
• Complete patient and family teaching
• Order appropriate labs, tests and procedures and follow up with patient as needed
• Coordinate care and refer to other medical professionals as needed
• Respond to patient messages via clinic, telephone, and other patient encounters in the Epic (Maestro) system
• Review lab results in Maestro, communicate and interpret results
• Collaborate with nursing staff to complete patient paperwork including medication pre-certifications for insurance companies, durable medical equipment requests, disability paperwork, and handicapped permit applications
  
  

Job Eligibility Requirements

Education

• Nurse Practitioners: Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
• Physician Assistants: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
  
  

Certification

• BLS required.
  
  

License

• Nurse Practitioners: Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. National certification as a NP required.
• Physician Assistants: Must be licensed in the state of NC and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
• Both: DEA licensure with full prescriptive authority required.
