Advanced Practitioner (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) – St. Luke’s Hospital

Responsibilities

• Assess, treat, counsel, and educate patients and families, providing medical services.
• Evaluate patients and perform physical examinations, obtaining, studying, and updating medical histories.
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests (radiologic and laboratory studies) to determine abnormal conditions.
• Develop and implement appropriate patient management and treatment plans based on assessed needs.
• Coordinate and communicate patient care effectively with other healthcare professionals and institutions.
• Provide high‑quality health care grounded in evidence‑based medicine.
• Perform therapeutic and diagnostic procedures in accordance with granted clinical privileges.
• Conduct virtual care services (live, interactive assessments, diagnosis, and treatment) via St. Luke’s virtual platform when requested.
• Maintain professional knowledge through educational workshops, professional publications, networking, and society participation; complete required continuing medical education.
• Participate in research and the development, implementation, and tracking of clinical management guidelines.
• Teach multidisciplinary students (nursing, nursing‑practitioner, pharmacy, physician assistant, medical, etc.) and physician residents & fellows, ensuring a positive educational environment.
• Serve as a preceptor for AP student clinical rotations when assigned.
• Demonstrate performance improvement in clinical care/outcomes, customer/service improvement, operational systems/processes, and safety.
• Use the electronic medical record accurately and document for optimal billing of professional services.
• Exercise financial responsibility and accountability through efficient use of resources.
• Collaborate with the case‑management team to develop care and disposition plans.

Schedule

• Night shift: 12‑hour shifts, 24 shifts in an 8‑week block, every other weekend, minimum 1 major and 2 minor holidays per year.
• Day shift: 10‑hour, 12‑hour, or combinations, 7 or 8 shifts in a 2‑week block, every other weekend, minimum 1 major and 2 minor holidays per year.

Physical & Sensory Requirements

• Sit up to 8 hours per day; 3 hours at a time.
• Stand up to 8 hours per day.
• Walk up to 6 hours per day.
• Frequently lift, carry, and push objects up to 10 pounds; occasionally up to 75 pounds.
• Frequently stoop and bend; frequently reach above shoulder level; frequently grasp, twist, and turn for procedures.
• Perceive tactile attributes of objects.
• Hear normal conversation, high and low frequencies.
• See: general, near, far, color, and peripheral vision.
• Speak normal conversation and projections for lectures and presentations.
