Job summary

Wellpath / Correct Care Solutions in California is seeking a Nurse Practitioner (MAT) to provide on-site medical services in a correctional setting, including induction, follow-up, and medication management.

You will diagnose conditions, prescribe treatment plans, conduct clinics and rounds, and participate in CalAIM and continuity-of-care initiatives; must have NP license and CPR, with MAT experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Must be licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in the state of employment.
• Current CPR certification.
• Experience in substance use disorder treatment and MAT is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Examine patients, conduct sick calls, chronic care clinics, and infirmary rounds.
• Diagnose conditions, prescribe and manage treatment plans, and provide MAT-related care.
• Conduct MAT assessments, inductions, follow-up appointments, and titration of medications.
• Order and interpret lab tests and drug screens; utilize in-house and referral resources.
• Document encounters, maintain confidentiality, and follow policies and standards.

How you make a difference

The Nurse Practitioner provides on-site medical services by examining referred patients, conducting clinics, rounds, and responding to urgent and emergency situations. The role delivers ongoing medical care by diagnosing conditions, prescribing treatment plans, managing chronic care, and providing Medication Assisted Treatment services, including induction, follow-up, and medication management. The position documents care, orders and interprets labs, adheres to established policies and formularies, and supports continuity and standards of care within the facility.

Key Responsibilities

• Examine patients, conduct sick call, chronic care clinics, and infirmary rounds, and respond to health emergencies.
• Diagnose conditions, prescribe and manage treatment plans, and provide ongoing medical and MAT-related care.
• Conduct MAT assessments, inductions, follow-up appointments, and manage medication continuation and titration.
• Order and interpret laboratory tests and drug screens and utilize appropriate in-house and referral resources.
• Document patient encounters, maintain confidentiality, and comply with established policies, procedures, and standards of care.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

• A graduate of an accredited school of nursing
• An advanced degree in an approved and accredited Nurse Practitioner program.

Experience

• Prior medical/surgical and/or emergency/trauma experience and corrections experience is preferred.
• Must have the patience and tact to deal with the inmate population and ability to work effectively in the corrections environment.
• Scheduling flexibility is also required to be able to rotate hours and shifts, if needed, and to be called during emergency situations to provide coverage.

Licenses/Certifications

• Must have and maintain current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner within the state of employment.
• Must have and maintain current CPR certification.

Ideal candidates will have strong experience in substance use disorder treatment, Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), and chronic disease management, with the clinical judgment to independently assess, diagnose, prescribe, and manage patients in a correctional setting. They should be comfortable with CIWA/COWS assessments, MAT inductions and medication titration, ongoing SUD follow-up, lab and drug screen interpretation, and detailed clinical documentation. Experience with CalAIM, Medi-Cal, justice-involved populations, and coordinated reentry or continuity-of-care services is especially valuable. Candidates should also be adaptable enough to support general jail clinic needs, including sick call, chronic care, urgent/emergency care, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
