  • Salary Range: $135,000 - $160,000

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Division of Nephrology at Columbia Universityis consistently ranked as one of the top nephrology divisions in the country and offers a great environment for career growth and development. We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join nursing team integrated in a busy faculty practice that oversees the care of complex nephrology patients. The practice cares for patients with a breadth of diseases including electrolyte disorders, hypertension, chronic kidney disease, and end stage renal disease including patients on dialysis and post kidney transplantation. The ideal candidate will be independent, flexible, hardworking and will thrive delivering patient centered care in an atmosphere that is challenging, yet deeply satisfying.

Responsibilities
  • Works cooperatively with MD's, other NP's, RN's and other allied health personnel.
  • Provides direction to various allied health staff and performs comprehensive assessment.
  • Orders, conducts and interprets diagnostic tests.
  • Formulates a diagnostic impression; and develops and implements a treatment plan.
  • Monitors the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions, prescription of pharmacological agents and treatments and non- pharmacological therapies.
  • Provides counseling and education to meet patient needs.
  • Performs and assists in biopsies and dialysis catheter placement.
  • Covers all areas of nephrology including inpatient and outpatient dialysis, inpatient nephrology service, nephrology clinics, infusion clinics and renal biopsy clinics.
  • Oversees the training of new NPs and assists with NP schedules.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining clinic workflows in the EMR.
  • Develops QA projects in the clinic.
  • Performs additional related duties as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree plus at least one to two years of related experience, or equivalent in education and experience
  • Current New York State Nurse Practitioner license (or proof of application)
  • Current New York State Registered Nurse license
  • Board certification
  • Current DEA, Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications
  • Excellent verbal, written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Ability to manage time and stress effectively, and adapt to unpredictable situations within the patient care setting
  • Flexibility to adjust schedule to meet patient and staff needs
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two to five years of clinical experience in Nephrology
  • Primary care, acute care, and/or ICU experience
  • Strong computer skills in an Electronic Medical Record
Other Requirements
  • Must satisfy all clinical credentialing and privileging requirements of NewYork‑Presbyterian Hospital
  • Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements
