Job summary

Texas A&M University is seeking a Nurse Practitioner II in Psychiatry to perform clinical assessments, provide crisis intervention, and manage psychiatric medications. Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in nursing or equivalent level of education and experience to hold an NP license in Texas.
  • Texas NP licensure with prescriptive authority and board certification in mental health.
  • DEA registration and BLS certification required.
  • RN and APN licenses with prescriptive authority must be maintained.

Responsibilities

  • Engages in clinical assessments and diagnostic evaluations.
  • Provides crisis intervention for patients with mental health care needs.
  • Monitors patients to ensure adherence to treatment plans.
  • Prescribes and monitors medications.
  • Documents patient encounters accurately in the EMR system.
  • Counsels and consults with other providers on treatment plans.
  • May serve as practicum instructor or preceptor for students.
  • Participates in continuing education to maintain licensure and certification.
  • Manages administrative tasks and outside referrals as needed.

Required Education and Experience
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or equivalent level of education and experience that qualifies the applicant to hold a Nurse Practitioner License in Texas.
Required Licenses and Certifications
  • Texas Board of Nursing Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licenses with prescriptive authority in Texas Board certified in mental health DEA registration BLS certification All licensure/certification must be maintained for continued employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in MAT Bilingual
Responsibilities
Clinical Assessments and Evaluations
  • Engages in clinical assessments and diagnostic evaluations.
  • Provides crisis intervention for patients with mental health care needs.
  • Monitors patients to ensure adherence to treatment plans.
  • Assumes responsibility for difficult and complex patients based on experience or area of expertise.
Medication Management and Documentation
  • Prescribes and monitors medications.
  • Completes accurate and appropriate documentation of patient encounters in the electronic medical records system in a timely manner.
  • Acts in accordance with all departmental policies/procedures, relevant licensing boards, and local, state, and federal laws regulating Nurse Practitioners.
Counseling and Consultation
  • Engages in counseling/clinical-related activities and works closely with the Integrated Behavioral Health unit.
  • Consults with other providers regarding patients' psychiatric medications and treatment plans to ensure appropriateness and coordination of care.
  • Serves as an internal resource for staff and medical providers regarding psychiatric-mental health care questions.
Education and Training
  • May serve as a practicum instructor or preceptor for graduate or undergraduate students.
  • Participates in continuing education to maintain licensure and board certification.
  • May conduct scholarly presentations to clinic staff and participate in educational activities for staff, students, and trainees of other disciplines.
Administrative Duties
  • Engages in various administrative aspects of counseling/clinical cases.
  • Completes outside referrals as needed.
  • May assist in preparing patient educational materials.
