Job summary

The NP II will lead clinical initiatives and collaborate with staff physicians and leadership. This full-time exempt position is based at Cardinal Station with on-site care at Health Sciences Campus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field and eight (8) years of relevant experience; eligible for Kentucky licensure as RN and NP.
• Eligible for Nurse Practitioner certification.
• May require a specific certification.
• Preferred: Master's degree in nursing with NP specialization; five years campus health experience; BLS/CPR certification.

Responsibilities

The Department of Campus Health Services within the Division of Student Affairs is seeking to hire a Nurse Practitioner II. The Nurse Practitioner II performs medical assessments, examinations and treatments, providing accurate client education, appropriate ordering and reporting of test results, and proper use of consultations. This position also serves as a resource for internal and external customers, providing sound interpretation and application of professional standards of practice and adhering to the University policies, procedures, and protocols in place. The Nurse Practitioner II is responsible for maintaining acceptable and consistent standards of care. This position will also assist department leadership to evaluate and develop clinical practice guidelines and lead one or more department/clinic initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provides health services to patients in accordance with established clinic and University procedures and protocols
• Provides health education to patients regarding preventive care and prescribed treatments
• Examine patients, completes medical diagnoses, assess patient conditions, and plans care based on assessment
• Consults with a staff physician regarding patient care, as necessary
• Serves as a patient advocate by addressing patient concerns, assessing situations, reporting concerns to designated clinic staff, recommending applicable patient action, and instituting a treatment plan if necessary
• Maintains patient records according to established clinic and University procedures and protocols and facilitates effective communication with colleagues and patients
• Serves as a professional role model and resource through demonstration of advanced nursing practice
• Assesses own professional development in collaboration with supervisor and participates in in-service trainings and continuing education programs to maintain and develop clinical knowledge and skills
• Consistently practices good clinical judgment, applying active listening, critical thinking, and effective decision-making in the performance of duties
• Actively participates in departmental meetings, sharing observations, concerns and feedback pursuant to clinic improvements and initiatives
• Assists with the development, review, and revision of clinical practice guidelines; providing recommendations for more effective clinic processes and operations
• Leads one or more department/clinic initiatives
• Participates to assist with the execution of Division initiatives such as freshman orientation, Welcome Week, and resident move-in events, as available
• Performs other duties and completes special projects as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in nursing with clinical specialization as a nurse practitioner
• Five (5) years of nursing experience in a campus health setting or similar, serving student patients
• Primary care experience
• BLS and CPR/AED certification
• Experience participating in professional organizations and quality improvement projects

Work Hours and Location

This is a full-time, exempt position with a 40-hour regular workweek. Additional work hours may be required based on department needs, programming, staffing, and/or scheduling. The primary work location for this position is at Cardinal Station, adjacent to Patterson Stadium. The incumbent will rotate to provide care at the Health Sciences Campus also. Occasional overnight travel (for professional development or conferences) may be required.
