Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Clinical Care: The PA or NP provides assessment, triage, and therapeutic management of patient and family needs throughout the disease process. They collaborate with supervising physicians, obtain histories, perform examinations, review test results, establish treatment plans, and may prescribe medications according to institutional and state regulations. The provider may also assist in operative cases within scope and respond to emergency situations.
• Patient Education & Psychosocial Support: The provider educates patients and families about care plans, treatment options, medications, and discharge instructions, working with the supervising physician. They also offer psychosocial support in a caring, ethical, and professional manner as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Information Management: The provider ensures accurate documentation in compliance with hospital and regulatory requirements and safeguards patient information from unauthorized access or disclosure.
• Quality Management: The provider demonstrates high standards of professionalism, compassion, and ethical behavior, and ensures compliance with patient‑related healthcare regulations and standards.
• Professional Development: The provider engages in activities that maintain and advance professional competency, serves as a clinical resource for new staff, reports safety events, and may participate in research, quality improvement, and protocol development projects.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
• Preferable clinical experience as an NP or PA within the relevant specialty, though none is required.
• Active PA certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and a valid Connecticut State Physician Assistant license, or equivalent RN/NP credentials with necessary board certification.
• Required certifications include ACLS/BLS; additional certifications such as DEA, PALS, or NRP may be necessary for certain positions.
• Must be appointed to the affiliated medical staff of a YNHHS hospital and credentialed through the Medical Staff process, with evidence of current competence to practice.
