Job summary

Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking an NP for primary care pediatrics in Waco, TX. The role emphasizes outpatient care, well visits, acute visits, and follow-ups within a Monday–Friday schedule.

A structured onboarding and mentorship program supports new graduates through a 12-month fellowship and 12–18 months of transition assistance. The team includes RNs, LVNs, and medical assistants, with opportunities for growth and diverse clinical experience in preventive care and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited NP program.
  • Less than 1 year of experience.
  • Current Texas NP license or eligible.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients through comprehensive or focused exams and histories.
  • Order, interpret labs and tests to assess health needs.
  • Prescribe medications and perform procedures per protocol.
  • Counsel patients on treatment plans and health promotion.
  • Document treatment plans and outcomes; refer as needed.
  • Provide team-based care for acute and chronic illness.

Position Highlights – General Pediatrics | Waco, TX
  • Outpatient Pediatrics Focus – Provide comprehensive care including well visits, acute care, and follow-ups
  • Established Patient Panel – Manage new and established pediatric patients (avg. 25 per day)
  • Flexible Scheduling – 8 or 10-hour shifts within clinic hours (7 AM – 7 PM)
  • No Weekend Requirement – Enjoy a Monday–Friday schedule with Fridays ending early (7 AM – 5 PM)

Job Summary

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) Primary Care is a licensed, certified healthcare provider. They provide direct patient care and have prescriptive authority. They are credentialed, privileged, and billed as an independent provider by Medicare and Medicaid. The Advanced Practice Provider offers medical care based on the supervising physician's scope of practice.

These providers typically provide care to patients in an internal medicine, family medicine, geriatric or pediatric clinic.

Essential Functions Of The Role
  • Assesses the physical and mental condition of patients by performing and obtaining comprehensive or problem-focused physical examinations and medical histories.
  • Orders, collects, interprets, and evaluates laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs.
  • Prescribes, recommends, or uses medical drug therapies or other treatments. Performs procedures following approved protocols, focusing on efficacy, safety, and cost.
  • Recommends interventions to modify behavior associated with health risks.
  • Formulates and implements comprehensive patient treatment plans based on assessments, evidence-based medicine, and standards of care. Collaborates with physicians and team members when appropriate. Evaluates patient's response to care and its effectiveness.
  • Counsels patients and families on medical processes, illness management, medication, nutrition, and health promotion. Counsels patients about drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with food supplements, over-the-counter medications, and herbal remedies.
  • Maintains appropriate records detailing the patient's treatment plans and outcomes. Initiates timely consultation and referral when the problem exceeds scope of practice or expertise.
  • Provide consultation level services for conditions/problems related to the Provider’s specialty and training.
  • Perform invasive procedures specific to scope of practice and knowledge of the provider as delegated by supervising Physician.
  • May provide care to patients in a team-based model. Focus on acute and chronic illness management and population health.

  • Knowledge of information and techniques to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.
  • Knowledge of practices, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions.

  • Ability to interpret and evaluate laboratory and other diagnostic tests.
  • Texas RN licensure or RN licensure with compact privilege from a Nurse Licensure Compact state for RNs and LVNs, and Texas APRN.
  • Current license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the state of Texas.
  • Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire or transfer.
  • National Nurse Practitioner certification in area of specialty.
