Job description

Johns Hopkins University is seeking a Nurse Practitioner for the Center for Nontuberculous Mycobacteria and Bronchiectasis (NTMB), a nationally recognized program established in 2018 that has become a destination for patients with complex, chronic lung disease. This position offers the opportunity to provide specialized care for adults with suspected or confirmed nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) infection – pulmonary or extrapulmonary – and non‑cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis. The Nurse Practitioner will work as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team that includes pulmonary medicine and infectious diseases physicians as well as physical therapists with expertise in airway clearance techniques. Patients are seen in a coordinated model that allows for evaluations by multiple specialists during the same clinic visit.

The center manages patients with complex, chronic respiratory conditions that require ongoing care. In this role, the Nurse Practitioner will have the opportunity to develop expertise in NTM infections and bronchiectasis, build longitudinal relationships with patients and families, and participate in the center’s active clinical research program. The Nurse Practitioner will practice under the supervision of attending physicians.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive, age‑appropriate episodic care to patients. Take medical histories, perform physical exams, order and interpret laboratory tests/x‑rays, make preliminary diagnoses, and order treatment.
  • Perform treatment and give patient care directions to nursing and other staff.
  • Prescribe medication, provide patient care, and make patient referrals to an appropriate licensed physician.
  • Instruct and counsel patients on diagnosis, complaints, therapeutic regimens, home care, and health maintenance.
  • Attend weekly multidisciplinary care meetings.
  • Coordinate research initiatives in collaboration with the PI and research team or clinical initiatives in collaboration with the medical team.
  • Identify patients eligible for IRB‑approved clinical research studies.
  • May contribute to the design of clinical and/or research protocols and procedures.
  • Participate in the daily operations of clinical and/or research protocols in collaboration with other staff.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Nursing; Registered Nurse license and certified as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of MD.
  • Additional experience may substitute for a master's degree, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • Must be willing to obtain a license in at least 4 additional states (DE, PA, WV, FL) to facilitate telemedicine appointments.
