Houston Methodist Specialty Physician Group seeks a Nurse Practitioner - Acute Care (NP-AC) to provide comprehensive patient care across inpatient and outpatient settings in alignment with the Nurse Practice Act of Texas.

The NP-AC will diagnose, treat, consult, and educate patients, perform physicals, order tests, prescribe medications, and participate in a multidisciplinary team under physician supervision.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher from an accredited school of nursing and graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Two years of registered nurse, advanced practice, or nurse practitioner clinical experience.
  • RN Texas license within 60 days of residency, APRN – Acute Care state license, Magnet ANCC‑recognized Acute‑Care practitioner certification, BLS, ACLS, AP Prescriptive Authority, DEA Narcotics License.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates leadership as a clinical resource and preceptor; coaches staff to meet goals.
  • Coordinates patient care with the interprofessional health care team to manage/coordinate care.
  • Educates patients about preventive care and promotes healthy lifestyle choices.

Job description

Come lead with us at Houston Methodist Specialty Physician Group. At Houston Methodist, the Nurse Practitioner Acute Care (NP-AC) functions as a licensed registered nurse and care provider, delivering all aspects of patient care—diagnosis, treatment, consultation—while maintaining and promoting patient health. The NP-AC may work in both inpatient and outpatient settings, operating under the Nurse Practice Act of Texas and as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team. This role models compassionate communication, educates patients about preventive care, conducts physicals, orders tests, prescribes medications, and performs invasive and therapeutic procedures as warranted, always in alignment with the Houston Methodist Professional Practice Model.

Qualifications
Education
  • Master’s degree or higher from an accredited school of nursing and graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
Experience
  • Two years of registered nurse, advanced practice, or nurse practitioner clinical experience
Licenses and Certifications – Required
  • RN – Registered Nurse – Texas State Licensure (Texas Board of Nursing) – must obtain permanent Texas license within 60 days (if establishing Texas residency)
  • APRN – Acute Care state license
  • Magnet ANCC‑recognized Acute‑Care practitioner certification
  • BLS – Basic Life Support or Instructor (American Heart Association)
  • ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support or Instructor (American Heart Association)
  • AP – Prescriptive Authority – Texas Board of Nursing, Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation
  • DEA – Narcotics License (Drug Enforcement Administration)

  • Performs invasive, diagnostic, or therapeutic procedures consistent with licensure and credentialed privileges
  • Leads outcome, quality, and safety improvement activities; integrates and contributes to professional practice standards, policies, protocols, and leads improvements in patient safety processes
