UCI Health is seeking a Nurse Practitioner 2 to join the Department of Surgery in Irvine, California. The role involves managing inpatient care for surgical patients across various specialties, including general and specialty surgeries.

The position of Nurse Practitioner 2 in the Department of Surgery requires a highly competent, independent yet team-oriented individual who will be immersed in the management and coordination of all inpatient care of surgical patients, primarily located at our new hospital in Irvine, California.
The surgical patients will include general surgery and specialty surgical services on all levels of care, including the intensive care unit. Inpatient surgical services include colorectal surgery, ENT, general surgery, gynecology, hand surgery, minimally invasive surgery, plastic surgery, surgical oncology, thoracic, urology, vascular.
Duties include consults and inpatient care and management, evaluating care, ordering diagnostics, creating a treatment plan, participating in inpatient sign-out/hand-off at the beginning and end of shifts, rounding, communicating with surgical teams, residents, and attending physicians, performing surgical consultations on potential surgical patients, participating in resuscitations, coordinating procedures, scheduling operations, following up, admitting and discharging patients, triaging phone calls, reviewing critical labs, obtaining comprehensive medical histories, performing initial and daily physical examinations and assessments, exploring patients’ health needs in a trauma‑informed manner, identifying, treating, and managing hospitalized patients, demonstrating advanced medical knowledge and clinical judgment, communicating professionally, documenting promptly and compliantly, and participating in professional development and competency validation. Nurse Practitioners with RNFA credentials may assist in the operating room, collaborating closely with surgeons and the surgical team.
