Job summary

VitalCore Health Strategies in Mississippi is seeking a Full-Time Nurse Practitioner for Wilkinson County Correctional Facility in Woodville. The NP will deliver ambulatory medical care in a correctional setting under physician supervision, focusing on prompt, quality patient care for inmates.

The position offers a comprehensive benefits package and requires graduation from an accredited NP/PA program with current state licensure. Correctional experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Responds to and initiates care for medical emergencies throughout the facility.
• Identifies inmate health problems and prescribes treatment under direction of a physician.
• Implements medical care utilizing therapeutic regimens approved by a Physician.
• Provides education to inmate, patients, healthcare, and correctional staff.
• Documents all healthcare contacts.
• Adheres to safety and security policies and participates in disaster drills.

NURSE PRACTITIONER POSITION SUMMARY

The Nurse Practitioner utilizes the medical model to meet a variety of healthcare needs with ambulatory care as their primary focus. The Physician’s Assistant works with a variety of healthcare professionals/security officers in a correctional environment to provide basic medical services supervised by a licensed Physician. The PA has no managerial responsibilities.

NURSE PRACTITIONER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Graduate of an accredited college/university NP or PA program
• Must possess current licenses or certifications in this state
• Experience in Correctional desired but not required

NURSE PRACTITIONER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Responds to and initiates care for medical emergencies throughout the facility.
• Identifies inmate /patient health problems and prescribes treatment under direction of a physician.
• Implements medical care utilizing therapeutic regimens approved by a Physician.
• Provides education to inmate /patient, healthcare, and correctional staff.
• Documents all healthcare contacts.
• Adheres to safety and security policies and participates in disaster drills. Follows security regulations for keys, sharps, and
• controlled medications.
• Assigns tasks to team members as needed.
• Adheres to Universal Precautions and other appropriate infection control practices.
• Attends training and meetings as required.
