Job summary

MEDIKO in Roanoke, VA is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join our on-site correctional healthcare team. You will assess, diagnose, treat patients, and develop treatment plans, while prescribing medications and maintaining comprehensive medical records in line with HIPAA and facility policies.

You will lead clinical operations, collaborate with the healthcare team, participate in on-call coverage, mentor staff, and drive high-quality care while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Active license as an APRN in Virginia.
• Post-graduate clinical program in a Primary Care discipline.
• Current DEA registration.
• Board certification in ANP/AGNP/FNP/ENP or similar.
• 3–5 years of clinical practice; correctional/underserved settings preferred.
• Active CPR/BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality medical care to inmates in a correctional setting.
• Assess, diagnose, and treat patients; prescribe medications and order tests.
• Lead and mentor nursing and healthcare staff; promote teamwork.
• Maintain accurate medical records and ensure HIPAA/compliance.
• Participate in on-call coverage and after-hours care as required.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans and follow them timely.

This position is Full Time, 4 Days (32 hours) per week and must be On-Site.
The Nurse Practitioner will provide high-quality medical care to patients in a correctional healthcare setting, including assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, and patient education. This role will collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure comprehensive care delivery and will prescribe medications, perform procedures, and manage chronic conditions. The Nurse Practitioner will also maintain accurate medical records and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and facility policies.

• Provide high-quality, evidence-based medical care to inmates in accordance with established policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines.
• Perform assessments, diagnose, and treat patients, including prescribing medication and ordering appropriate tests.

• Collaborate with medical and correctional staff to ensure smooth operations, resolve issues, and enhance patient care delivery.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

What we Ask of YOU:

• An active and unrestricted license to practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• Successful completion of a post-graduate clinical program in a Primary Care discipline (ANP, AGNP, FNP, ED, or related).
• Current and valid DEA Registration.
• Board Certification in chosen clinical program (ANP, AGNP, FNP, ENP, or similar).
• Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical practice, with at least 1-2 years in a correctional healthcare or underserved population setting preferred.
• Experience in diagnosis, treatment planning, and providing healthcare services in a managed care or correctional facility setting is highly preferred.
• Must hold Active CPR/BLS certificate (American Heart Association/American Red Cross guideline approved). prior to start date.
