Job summary

Great Basin Orthopaedics seeks a Nurse Practitioner to assist surgeons across clinic, operating room, and trauma coverage. The role includes managing schedules, performing histories and physicals, ordering tests, and participating in rounds with the team.

You will collaborate with staff, maintain accurate documentation in the EMR, and support perioperative care, including pre-and postoperative instructions and discharge planning. Requires Nevada NP licensure and national certification.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Maintain clinical schedule, assess and treat patients in clinic and OR.

  • Perform history, physicals, orders, and documentation.
  • Assist with minor surgical procedures and ensure safe patient discharge.

Job description

SUMMARY:

Nurse Practitioner with Great Basin Orthopaedics will assist surgeons in all capacities of patient care. We treat our patients in accordance with the highest standard of respect and emphasis on high-quality orthopaedic care.

1. Essential Qualities:

2. Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintains own clinical schedule, assessing and treating patients in accordance with clinic and supervising physician standards:
    • Clinic
    • Operation Room (O.R.) and Patient Rounding
    • Trauma coverage: On Call and Post Call
  • Coordinates and communicates about patient care with office staff, colleagues, and physicians.
  • Communicate with the previous day’s physician on-call or Allie Janas, DNP, FNP-C, RNFA if your assistance is required for add-on cases. Leaves no one "un-covered".
  • Oversee and preview set-ups with techs prior to cases, input computer orders prior to cases, learn physicians’ techniques and ensure that appropriate equipment is available.
  • Performs and records history and physical exam. Writes routine admissions, labs, PT/OT, and imaging orders.
  • Performs therapeutic and diagnostic procedures within his/her scope of practice and as directed by the physician. Orders and interprets laboratory and radiographic studies.
  • Assists with and/or performs minor surgical procedures.
  • Be proficient in appropriate closures, dressings, castings, splinting. Ensure patients leave the operating room and clinic safely.
  • Provides pre-and postoperative instructions to the patient. Participates in making rounds, ensure patients have appropriate medication scripts. Alert physicians of any issues.
  • Complete discharge summaries, orders, and paperwork necessary for discharge; including information needed for skilled nursing facilities, etc.
  • Maintain clinic schedule as well as O.R. assisting schedule. Evenings and weekends may apply.
  • Complete charting, paperwork, dictations, and all required patient documentation timely (within 48 hours) and accurately.
  • Cover on-call shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Utilizes EMR effectively to ensure that documentation supports charges.
  • Must be able to use variety of office equipment including PC, phone, copy machine/fax, writing instruments; and medical equipment including stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, and cast saw, etc.
3. Knowledge and Physical Demands:
  • Knowledge of acute and chronic care protocols.
  • Knowledge of patient rights and responsibilities, HIPAA, confidentiality agreements, licensing, and scope of practice.
  • Vision and hearing are required to be corrected to normal ranges. NPs are also required to walk, stoop and stand for extended periods of time; the ability to squat/kneel, push/pull and lift is required. Manual dexterity, full range in motion, and eye-hand coordination is essential for the use of surgical instruments. Lifting, transferring, and repositioning patients are necessary in surgery daily.
  • NPs are required to work under stressful conditions, on varying shifts, on weekends, holidays and working irregular hours.

6. Compensation:
  • Salary will be determined based on experience and market.
  • Position available for regular part-time (less than 30 hours) OR regular full-time employment (more than 30 hours per week).
  • Overtime does not apply for a salaried position.
  • On call weekday call compensated at $150 per day, weekend call compensated at $300 per weekend (Saturday-Sunday).
  • Other:
    • Medical Malpractice Insurance offered through Physician's Insurance.
    • Medical Insurance offered after 90 days.
    • Paid Licensure, DEA licensing, and credentialing fees paid.
    • Continuing Education up to $1,200.00 per year and one week (five days) off, as needed for licensure.
    • Vacation accrued bi-weekly, per hours worked; and increasing with years of service.
    • Holidays paid, 11 recognized holidays per year.
    • 401K with Pension and Profit Sharing.
