St Joseph Hospital & Medical Center is seeking a Surgical Complex Specialty Nurse Practitioner in Phoenix, AZ. In this role, you will have clinical responsibility for various surgical patients, coordinating care with a multidisciplinary team and participating in quality assurance programs. You will utilize your advanced nursing skills to deliver patient-centered care and be the primary contact for managing patient needs, including after-hours and weekend calls.
This position requires a Master's degree in Nursing, a valid RN license, and various certifications. You will play a key role in providing specialized care and improving outcomes for complex cases.
As a Surgical Complex Specialty Nurse Practitioner, in collaboration with the physician/medical director, you will assume clinical responsibility for tasks performed within the Nurse Practitioner's scope of practice. This includes taking patient’s history, performing physical examinations, ordering appropriate diagnostic tests, establishing diagnosis, and providing care and management for various illnesses and disease prevention. Every day, you may assist in patient admission, transfer, or discharge. You will make appropriate referrals to specialists and community agencies, and participate in quality assurance and quality improvement programs. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to develop patient‑centered plans. In addition to general NP duties, you will provide specialized care and management for complex surgical patients, often in critical care units, respond to acute situations in the periprocedural period, and collaborate with surgical teams to optimize outcomes. To be successful in your role, you will strategically deliver comprehensive, highly specialized patient care for complex surgical cases, assuming clinical responsibility for assessing, diagnosing, and managing patients within the Nurse Practitioner's scope. You will demonstrate exceptional clinical expertise in performing physical examinations, ordering diagnostic tests, responding to acute situations, and collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team to develop patient‑centered plans, while actively participating in quality assurance and ensuring seamless care coordination throughout the surgical journey.
Responsible for performing patient evaluations, reviewing pretreatment teaching, recommending therapeutic intervention, counseling patients and families and collaborating with appropriate physicians to provide other appropriate direct care interventions within the scope of practice for nurse practitioner in collaboration with the Program Director. Primary point of contact and assumes responsibilities for managing the care for patients.
